Look like aquatic center parking area is closed. I've parked along the side street on Arroyo.

Dammit. I wanted to make it this month. I guess I'll shoot for August. I'll write it on my calendar.

Would have loved to ride today, but had to “work” until about 3:00 am, by the time I woke up, you guys were probably already eating pizza. Hopefully next month.

It was great seeing some familiar faces after a year and change of not going to the vintage ride. It was great riding the 2nd half with mech986

Looks like it will be a hot one in Pasadena for this Sunday’s ride if current forecasts remain - 91* high. If today is any indication, will be 84 and clear sunny skies at 11:00am start, 88 by noon, 91 by 1:00 PM.

This kind of temperature conditions is pretty much my limit so I’m probably going to ride but be very cautious on heat exposure, taking copious amounts water and electrolyte fluids, and taking a number of breaks and maybe even water dousing to cool off. No ride is worth potential heat stroke or serious health issues.

so be safe, stay home or ride earlier. I would ride earlier too but not sure anyone else would leave earlier, say 9:00 am instead.

any thoughts?

It'd be difficult to give everyone a heads up about an earlier start time with a few days before the ride.

While I do think starting earlier say 10am is a good idea I think it's better better riders make the call day of.

I'll be there Sunday to ride.

I agree, we don’t really have a way to contact most or everyone who is riding although I probably have 30-50% of the numbers.

A few years ago I spoke with Chuck about changing the start time due to the Summer heat, there were several Valid reasons he gave me and ultimately he said no change in time.

I'll be there this Sunday as usual.

Bartly and all , have a safe ride . I really want to do this with you but this weekend duty calls(work) so no show. The heat would not keep me away maybe just ride slower-drink more. I did make it to the ride in San Diego and it was a blast! There were 15 riders! A couple of us from Ventura County made it. Joe

Not too bad today ... seen worse temps.

90° plus temps, but a good turnout for today's #veloretro Pasadena ride. The shade and breezes made the hot sun almost bearable.

Got there late and, understandably, you left without me. Decided to catch up with the group, and eventually did at the pizza stop. It was hot, but glad I took the time to look for sunscreen (the reason I was late).

Hope to do next month’s ride on my new (to me) Medici once Manny and I (mostly Manny) get it built.

I won’t be riding tomorrow, forecast temps of 91 at 11:00, 95 at 12:00, 97 at 1:00, and 99 at 2-3pm are just too hot for me. I do know that a few are going so guys and gals, be safe, plenty of sunblock, lots of fluids, stops as needed and get out of the heat if you feel ANYTHING amiss. Drench down with water from a hose if you have to. Have your phones for emergency calls if anyone runs into trouble, heat exhaustion or heat stroke can be really serious or life threatening.

I know many of you were looking forward to and are disappointed again at the Eroica California postponement. Some of us are still going up to Cambria (wife said she still needed a vacation) and will ride in some informal FauxRoica rides along the coast plus staying safe. Now we have 8 more months to try again, hopefully conditions will allow the event to be held safely, same with the Velo Retro ride month to month.

Be safe, be careful, and see you in October.

Bart

September 2021..The Summer heat was in full effect but it didnt stop the Die Hards from getting out on the roads.

The DeRosa tripletts were in full swing as well as a pair of Volare's today. Some really fantastic machines turned up to ride.

Here's some shots.

Thanks to Manny, who rebuilt my Medici Pro Strada for me (it’s the orange one with the uber-bright orange bar tape), I got to ride an actual vintage road bike in today’s ride. Compared to the Centurion I’ve been riding up to now, this felt like I was riding an e-bike. Up until the chain break, anyway.

Major shout-out to the rider who jumped in and fixed that before I could even get my multi-tool out of my seat bag. A shorter chain meant a couple fewer gears, but much better than walking those last 3 miles. Heat, schmeat, this was a good ride any way you look at it.
