Anyone who ever shot a (full) soda or beer can will understand why this was such a bad idea, and how lucky this Elmer Fudd was. Water just doesn't allow itself to be displaced like air. It pushes back fast and hard and the force of the impact of the shot is quickly carried along to cause a lot of damage further down the line.
