I have no idea about specific generations, but I stumbled upon a Cambio Corsa for sale on eBay just the other day. It is still up. Ad claims '40s.

My initial Winter Project, converting the second Davidson (a custom sport tourer signature model) into an Eroica compliant warrior for My Friend Gary, is pretty much done except for one or two very minor details.
But then got attracted to a lilac Bobby J across the hall, so that will take up some time…

My primary projects are to button up the builds on 2 new-to-me framesets. Primary? First celeste Bianchi and with Formula One tubeset; Rickert is the oldest lightweight I have ever owned (but unridden). I changed both builds and then procrastinated. But new rides are compelling.

The crankset rings on this will be 46/30 (VeloOrange). I want an off-road hill climber and light tourer over an ‘all original component’ collectible. (46/30 in da parts bin.)

This one has had more than one revision. Going with dual pivot Centaurs, long cage Mirage 9, but with downtube friction and 7sp freewheel, unless a free hub wheelset materializes. Weinmann delta brakes are pictured, but we’re too problematic for me to install.

edit: my second ‘priority’ winter project is to decide whether to sell almost all my 58cm frames? Perhaps 5. Bottecchia,Zeus,Pinarello,Follis,?. The future beckons….

A lower priority project will be to refurb this large, low end Carlton. If I ever get old and retire, to flatlandia…. well…. an old man needs a big heavy stable bike to ride a straight line.

The drops are sooo smooth on ‘top-o-my-range large frames’

…..and the Harding (Holdsworth) gets a new Holdsworth replica (and drilled, 48/34) crankset; also the new stem with narrowest randonneur handlebar experimenté and new brake levers.

…. and is there a thread for
Projects on the Back Burner

the ongoing 60’s Frejus slaga (slog+saga) - for a condorino city bike outa an Italian bike that has yet to fit. But intrigues.

IGH? Fixie/ss? Frame has no der hangar

I will need a city bike saddle.

My winter project will arrive in a few weeks, but it may be spring before I can build it, thanks to shoulder surgery recovery time. Motivation to get through the PT I suppose?

Are those the original levers? My Legnano needs a lever and I may break down and get a set of modern pieces so I can have 2 brakes.

The Frejus was originally a drop bar bike. Short top tube made it a tough fit. So I am attempting to reenvision a purpose for it. The condorino bars will be the newest attempt to make it pleasurably rideable for me. If I get a round tuit.

edit for clarification: the Legnano branded condorino bars are a stem/bar/levers single (welded) component. You either like them or you don’t, as the only adjustment is the stem insertion depth.

Ordered some tools today, still need to order a stem, spokes/nipples, and a saddle. Should be smooth sailing after that.

Repair effected!

I consulted with gugie on the matter, who suggested possibly Breadwinner in Portland. I contacted Dave Levy at TiCycles, who quoted $500, which included replacing the head tube, and a date of July 2022. I've also sent an email out to Keith Lippy here in Salem, who is technically retired from framebuilding, but has apparently done repairs for others in the area recently. I haven't heard back from him yet.

I was feeling bad for Johnny, as I talked him into buying the Breakaway (ironic, eh?) I'd been thinking about it, and figured I'd give a repair a go. It's about a 45 minute drive from Salem to the Atelier, and I only needed the front half of the frame. When he delivered the frame I pulled out my drill and wire wheel and removed some of the powder coat, as it appears the crack was very localized.

The crack was hard to see, but it's on the very edge of the weld. After Johnny left I used a file to carefully remove more material. On a repair like this it's important to "get to the bottom of it". My plan was to carefully undercut the weld so I could get full penetration using a fillet braze. A hacksaw blade and a small riffler file were employed to remove a bit more of the weld around the crack, with intermittent checks using a 10X jeweler's loop - after a bit it was the only way I could see it. After a few iterations of filing, sanding, and checking the crack started becoming shorter. Eventually it disappeared before I got all the way through the weld. I took the rest of the day off, the next morning I checked again with fresh eyes - no more crack! At this point I felt confident that I could effect a good repair.

After defluxing, filing and sanding, viola:

Ritchey's galactic headquarters emailed me the orange color code - Pantone 159. Since @johnnyace spent a good deal of his career at a print house, I'm pretty confident he'll be able to find a good powder coat match.

I expect to do a bit of gravel riding with John this season.

Noice! Maybe John should leave it finished raw to show off that fillet. Or maybe paint the front half black, the back half original orange?

Finished the Motobecane about a week or so ago. Rode it last week for about 23 miles and I really like it. I posted a thread about it but just in case here it is.

1980 Motobecane Grand Sprint “outlaw”
Now it is on to that 1978 Raleigh Pro. I have almost everything I need so two new steeds this year!

You must be joking.

I did finally get a bike broken down and shipped that I have had for, a long time, way too long.

Only to have another pop up that needs to go to the Philippines.

That looks fantastic, Mark! Looking forward to picking it up. The interwebs tell me that Pantone 159 = RAL 2000. Gonna touch base with Santiam Powdercoat in Scio, see what they bring to the table.

Pantone INK to powdercoat... an approximate, but worth reviewing.
