single speed/track chainrings on a double.....
Trying to sort out gearing for a Holdsworth build. 144BCD Campy cranks. I think I can get the gearing I need/want with 42/46 in front and 13-32 freewheel, but the 144BCD chainrings I'm finding (at a reasonable $) are specified as 'track' rings. Track rings are 1/8", road/double/etc 3/32".... Is this likely to cause a problem? Will a 6-7-8 chain work, or is it too narrow for a 1/8" ring. Cyclone II mechs, friction, don't care about lack of ramps/pins, etc.
Thx!
Thx!

Won't work. You need an 1/8" chain to run over the chainwheel. Too wide for the spacing of the freewheel.
I can't say I've ever tried to run 1/8" chain over the old freewheels but 3/32" chain was invented specifically for the job. I do know that a 3/32" chain will not sit down on an 1/'8" chainwheel or cog. The teeth are too fat to fit inside the links.

interestingly enough there are such animals as 1/8" multispeed gear blocks
took in a Chiorda built Kmart derailleur five speed machine with such a drive train
1/8" Agrati Thun pattern chainset
1/8" drive chain
Regina 5V gear block with 1/8" cogs

I presume this is, ahem, "interesting" on a 120mm rear hub? Or they built narrower rear hubs to accommodate this?
