Addiction 2022.2

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The only thing I can think of is my cardio is adjusting my BP meds, and maybe that has something to do with it. It kinda just happens at times with no predictability since he made some changes.

Will try again on Sunday. Tomorrow I golf.

Geez, what did he put you on?

EDIT: I've never noticed any positive or negative effects from my meds, but it's just an ACE inhibitor and a diuretic. Last Sunday's ride, I had inadvertently skipped a day, and as I said, I felt like a cycling god. I took my meds after my ride that day, then went for another ride the next day, where even though I didn't feel like a cycling god, I felt really good, much better than I should have considering the ride the day before. So

My BP has been trending higher so he doubled my calcium channel blocker rather than add a diuretic to see if that would bring it back down. I also take a beta blocker. I have a difficult and complex BP history.

I haven’t heard of any local cases among people I know recently. I’m rarely around groups.

In Spring, Dad would occasionally harvest dandelion greens from the yard, which he made into a salad with a bacon dressing. They were good!

It would be fun if the thread laggards, ls01 and rjones28, had a conversation in which each responded to the other's post from two days ago.

A flashback to snail mail days.

It’s really hot in Charlotte.

Found a group ride last night through a local I met in my neighborhood. It’s pretty cool how organized Charlotte is. They have a designated website for all the group rides, organized by day and time.

The group was small, it was storming in areas of Charlotte so I think that scared a lot of people. Typically the group will split into two groups. A pace and other pace. The A group was a no show. So the pace was nice and easy. I wasn’t complaining too much, a lot more elevation changes than I am used to. Only thing that was a little frustrating, the group seemed to have a hard time maintaining a speed. We were doing the accordian thing constantly. I tried to alleviate that by taking the pulls on the climbs and that didn’t work. So then I started staying in the back, and if I saw a gap start to form I would sprint ahead and try to stop the gap. That didn’t really work either. The route was awesome, and I am glad I got out and met some cool people.

Heh. Flatlanders - and I include myself in this, obv - shouldn't try to set the pace up hills with locals. I think that we have a tendency to judge effort by the proxy of speed, rather than actual effort, so pacing is uphill is often borked by going well above threshold and then dipping under threshold, sometimes severely, if the hill is long enough. If I'm going to set the pace uphill, it's gotta be a hill that I know and I'm going to watch my power pretty closely. And surging to smooth the pace? Yeah, that doesn't often work too well
