Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is your FD brazed on or clamped on?

And, did you adjust the adjust the little positioning screw so it touches your frame (or supplied plate) and prevents the FD from twisting?

Brakes look mechanical.
It's likely some cheap Chinese titanium. I think it only has a one year warranty.
Brakes are mechanical with 140mm rotors.

Here's one for $700.

Saturday was the first ride on my new (to me) dirt rig. There are some maintenance issues to sort out, and some changes to be made, but this thing is light, fast, and fun.

I learned yesterday that a friend of mine's teen age daughter is doing a coast-to-coast ride this summer. While the group will take about 6 weeks to do it, I hope she makes it! I don't think I would have ever set out to do something like that.

(This is not a request for donations. Just sharing something that I think is pretty cool.)

It's a clamp on. I know I aligned the FD so it was totally parallel with the chainrings and the orange sticker lined up with the chainring teeth, then set the funny screw to have the two white lines meet (is that what is the positioning screw?) and the limit screws all before the cable was connected/tensioned.

Again, it worked PERFECTLY for a few months and now it's ok but one in 100 shifts drops a chain.

This video explains:

May not apply though since you have a clamp on. "Stabilizing" screw is what I meant.

My big frustration is the FD rubbing on the chain despite the trim positions. That said, I avoid big/big and small/small. I'm always having to make little adjustments to keep it where I like it with respect to the most frequently used sections of the cassette.
The obvious solution is ti make the front shifter non-indexed. Infinite trim. How much time does the indexing really save?

Two days with the fam, doing vacay stuff and I'm exhausted. My wife and her brother just left to go back in. I will next see them tomorrow afternoon if all goes well*

* The day before departure the husband tested positive, and was under the weather. Mom and toddler were clean. After much gnashing of teeth and hand-wringing, they decided to to ignore it, and they boarded the plane Friday morning. The beach house is effectively an open space, but.....
This morning the toddler had a fever and went down for his nap early. We're guessing Mom will test him, but vamos a ver.

I did, but I got it for cheaper than that. Mind you, it's 27 years old, but Ti is allegedly forever, so........

The funny screw to have the white lines meet is cable tension. If your FD is the braze-on type, there's a little plate, less than 1cm square, that sticks to your frame, and a screw that pushes against it to push the tail of the cage away from the frame. On the Ultimate, because of where the braze-on mount is, there's nothing for that screw to push on, so I was extremely careful aligning the cage before I tightened the mounting screw.

I'd go through the limit screws again. Whenever I've had chain drop, it's because I set the limit screws too open.

I had two chainsuck incidents on the Ritchey recently. Curiously, they happened at EXACTLY the same place on my ride, a place where the road goes from descending to ascending, enough so that, combined with the headwind, I run out of gears in the big ring. I suspect the problem could be that I have the unfortunate tendency to shift front and rear at the same time, which is a no-no. Both times the chain locked up, but I backpedaled half a turn and it resolved. There are not enough miles on those rings, or the chain, for it to be wear on either.

When I was 7, Mom and Dad bought me a bike. So, Dad bought a banana seat and an 'ape hanger' handlebar. I was a little disappointed, but I rode that thing all over town.
