Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Maybe. In non-salt treated states these cars last forever.

In my experience, "family" is what you make it, and the bonds are sometimes stronger than blood.

Here's some cold and deep...I have a buddy, a bit younger than I am, who is married to a an amazing woman that makes a really nice salary, such that he can choose whether to work or not. His "job" is bike patrol/ski patrol (depending on season) at Snowshoe Mtn, WV. For the last couple of years, he has also been part of the crew that built the World Cup MTB race courses at the site. Despite my envy, they are some of my favorite humans, and I wish I could spend more time with them.
The guy who started the Tuesday ride retired when he was about 50. When I joined the club I was surprised at how many early retirees there are on bikes.

I get it. I’m in the land of salt treated roads, so there’s always a concerted effort to wash cars after storms and frequently during winter. Fortunately, I don’t have to drive often, but my wife does so her car gets a massive spring detail.

We did get snow last night, so I figured today was a good day to swap my summer wheels for my winter setup. I love winter, but I hate driving in winter.

Family is more a feeling than an exact definition.

After growing up in PA, and then moving to Western NY, when I moved out here it took me a while to get used to seeing cars older than 10 years.

Back in Ithaca, the girl I dated wanted a car to get around in. One of the professors was off-loading his "Winter Rat", which was a 1969 Chevelle 4dr. The fenders and door sills were all rusted, the paint was trashed, you could see the ground through the floor of the trunk, and you could smell the exhaust while you were driving.

This was 1980, so this car that was rusted all to hell and gone was only 11 years old. And that was pretty well preserved for Ithaca.

Very cute. If I ever have to buy another car, it will be something electric and small.

The difference here is that you are not related, but are friends with them all, so it gets confusing.

The only ones who can come on my weekday rides are retired (not early). Like me. I don't think many (if any) will ride in the cold. Just me. But they will drive a long way and spend a lot of money to go skiing in below freezing temperatures. Annoying.

All-wheel-drive eBike named after my favorite Australian band these days. Listening kinda reminds me of being on opiates sometimes

Maybe NSFW. Furries and near nudity.

R.I.P. Robert Clary. He survived Auschwitz after he was sent there with his parents at the age of 12. His parents were murdered in a gas chamber the day they arrived.

Another passing of note: Former Playboy model and actress Kymberly Herrin. She played the "dream ghost" who has an intimate encounter with Ray in Ghostbuster. She was also in three ZZ Top music videos, including the one for "Legs."

Speaking of wife, mrs datlas said it's "up to me" if we want to fix the Saturn. So I am inclined to spend $750 to buy another year. My thinking is that it's not a ton of dough, and it will be a better time to buy a new car in 1 year from now.
