Too Close for Comfort
One of the side benefits of running video cameras is that you can go back and review the footage to try and understand what happened. In this case, it was worse than I originally thought!

I don’t think the authorities will do anything unless there’s an accident or malice. I thought about reporting it to the DMV, but was told even they wouldn’t do anything.
I hear in London, they would use the video to prosecute. Wouldn’t that be nice!

I heard of police charging motorists for doing 200 km/hr in Alberta from those same drivers posting of themselves in Facebook.

Cycling Mikey has tons of successful prosecutions from submitting video evidence. In the UK they'll send the registered keeper (owner) a Notice of Intended Prosecution with the offense(s) listed. That person must show up to court and identify who was driving at the time. If they don't show or refuse to name who was behind the wheel, they don't get convicted of the original offense(s), but they do get smacked with Failure to Identify. When I last checked that carried a £660 fine plus court fees (usually upwards of £200).

It's like some drivers simply don't comprehend that they are allowed to simply slow down and wait until it's safer to do something.
Near my house we have several intersections with mini roundabouts. I think they're really more about just slowing drivers on the main road. More of a chicane than anything. I once had a car pass me right as I was going around one of these. It of course forces the car to go far right (I'm in the USA) as it effectively just narrows the road, a lot. That was a lesson for me to claim the lane before I get to these things. My way of making it clear to a driver to just stay behind me until we get past this.
My experience is most drivers are actually pretty courteous where I live. But there are the few that I really think see running into something as the better option to just slowing down or stopping.

No way to know if the cyclist is using a mirror. Could be a mirror on bar end left side, we can't see that in the photo.

These lanes are a decent width and this bike lane has been there for as long as I can remember, but yes the truck was either distracted or difficult to control. Reviewing the video, it veered into the right lane twice, but both times with plenty of time for the passing car to ease off and not pass until safe.

Don't think the law protects trucks, but yeah I shudder to think what would have happened if that truck was even a few inches more over.

I just sent an email to the CEO of DHL Canada a series of photos of what one of their drivers did. I sent it to him because I looked all over the DHL site and googled but could not find the appropriate department to send this kind of complaints to. Online complaints are only about delivery of packages so you need a tracking number.
