74mm front axle and disc brakes?

Hi,

does anyone know a complete folding bike that comes with 74mm (or up to 86mm) front axle and disc brake? Or a 20" fork / 74mm disc hub combo?

I've seen plenty of 74mm disc hubs for sale but not a single instance of a bike fitted with one. I wonder if it even can be done?

Greets, Tim

At least some of Dahon's use 74mm front hubs, so there might be one that also uses disk brakes, but only experts of the brand would know.

...or do you happen to know of a web page that shows those bikes with specs? a quick google search didn't bring up anything useful...

The fantastic FSIR folders are no longer being made or sold. A few of us, though, managed to snag a specimen or two before they expired. 😉

...sorry, had to pull it out from hibernation. Bike looks disfigured - has 47-305 tires on it for ergonomic tests - standard is 406. Hub in pic i made myself from 100mm hub, because i bought the bike and built the wheelsets i wanted long before 74mm disc hubs were widely available.

That Hutchinson tire says 47-305 on the sidewall but looks a lot more plump than that. Is it the camera distorting its size?

..it's the rims stretching the tires out to 60mm. Was looking for a lightweight voluminous slick but didn't find (in 305), tried to make my own by shaving knobby veetire crown gem in 2.25 and a chaoyang sparrow in 2.6 but they both came out too sticky of the material - too much rolling resistance. So i found these 40mm rims in the parts range of a bike trailer manufacturer. They fit the bill making comfortable volume and being lightweight, cheap and of acceptable quality and stability so far.

It's playing, only 10% of the things i try actually work
To get back on track, there is no real problems with 74mm hubs and disc brakes since the spoke flange distance can be smaller on smaller wheels. If 50mm is enough for 622 wheels, 35mm is fine for 406. It makes the fold narrower. I would plead for a narrower standard in the back also. The only limitation i ever heard of is that the TRP double actuated mechanical brakes don't fit, i have Tektro Lyra on it.

I remember seeing a website that was selling replacement front forks for Dahon bikes that could fit 100mm hubs with disc brakes. They were selling also on ebay.

Here it is on ebay:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/134225217381

you'll need to check if it has the threads for the type of headset nut that Dahon uses. It looks like this uses a star nut / expander with a compression ring. Hopefully it may fit.

Also, I thought the steerer tube length was longer on Tern compared to Dahon, so I'm not sure how this fork they're selling is supposed to be compatible with both.

AFAIK all Dahon with disk brakes use a 100mm OLD front hub: the Launch, K3 Plus, the new 2023 model Curl.

It seems strange to me that the Dahon EU website lists both the Launch D8 and K3 Plus, but I haven't found them for sale in EU stores.
