Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Not seeing that you got an answer, so: yes, this is common. Check with the company first if not explicitly stated, but I believe every 12x100 and 12x142 wheelset I've bought either has come with QR endcaps or is easily converted. That's been Hunt, HiFi, and another wheelset with i9 Torch hubs. The latter is the only one I'm not 100% certain about.

Thanks grolby that's good to hear. Seems easy enough if buying new, but for older used wheels from CList, may need to do some additional research to make sure parts are still available.

Used: Frameset (600 miles), Shifters (200 miles)

I didn't build it with weight in mind, so I'm surprised that it comes in at exactly 21 pounds. It's too bad the sun was not shining when I took the pics, as the paint job is superb.

I rode a VAAST for 1/2 of the summer last tear and was very impressed. As a stock bike you just cannot do better for under $2,000. Extremely comfortable and light too. Magnesium is 20x more dampening than steel, yet 2x the strength of titanium and still 1/3 lighter than aluminum. A super metal for bikes that costs just a bit more than aluminum!

How is the feel of it and cushion? Might be worth using the next time I wrap her bars.

It's a bit - as you said, plasticky - on the colored parts, but that's not surprising with the metallic appearance they're aiming for on this material. It's a foam tape with good cushion. It's okay, but not my favorite. It will stay for now...maybe.

Since I'm usually wearing long-finger gloves on my gravel bike, feeling plasticky is kind of irrelevant. I care that it's tacky enough for good grip and has some padding. It's both of those. I think it looks okay, but I'm a little on the fence about it.

first ride in current build / form

just a few more changes and it should be complete ... sorta ... kinda ...

seatpost and seat ... tires ...

the WTB Riddlers actually feel decent - but plan to install Terra Speeds ... or could go with S Works Pathfinders

Yes - Cannondale Topstone 3

or was a Topstone 3 - now more like a 2.5 or F3 ... F for Frankenstein ... or something like that

got this bike at a flea market - initially thought the XS size would be too small - but Topstones apparently have relatively long top tube (? - in small sizes at least ? ) - so the size works (so far)

Sora 9 speed and mech disc brakes were replaced with Tiagra 10 speed and hydraulic brakes and mix of other 10 and 11 speed road and off road components

brief build desc:

4725 shifters (Tiagra)
4770 calipers (Tiagra)
RT86 rotors (XT)
RX810 crank (GRX)
RX810 FD (GRX)
R8000 RD (Ultegra)
M980 cassette (XTR)

have C1 stem and handlebar installed - but still need to change a few things including tires, seat post, and seat
.

my gravel ‘test track’ (grin)

begins where our paved private road ends (private road we share with two other houses) - wraps around the back of neighbor’s property toward back of our property and then into wooded area (behind our houses) - and eventually funnels into some single track

Swapped my stem to one with a -17 deg drop (previous was -6 deg). Bingo! That's the fit I've been looking for. I've never felt more comfortable on this bike. I also ran wax-based lube for the first time (new chain with factory "lube" cleaned off). My drivetrain was nearly silent - magic!!

Eek! My back hurts just from looking at that stem.

Which one? And why not full on immersion waxing with a Crock Pot?

Meh. My road bike has more drop, and it’s very comfortable. Spinal flexibility is not an issue for me.

Silca Super Secret. This is my first try with wax-based lube. Maybe it’s the “gateway drug” to cooking.

Since the whole bike is black (frame, cockpit, rims/tires, cranks, etc.) I'd keep away from brown and stick to the blue accents in the wheel decals.
But as others have said it's your bike, do what you like.

Carbonda 696 with sram etap 2x11. Not a fan of 1x and I use it on the road for winter/foul weather riding. Now have full fenders on. 700x45, so much fun to ride.

Guess I’ll share a current config pic. It’s not staged but whatever

Have a treaded tire on for the softer roads this time of year.

NBD Vitus Substance VRS-2 with a couple of parts swap outs (G1800 700c > GR1600 650b, WTB tires to Pirelli, different saddle, Easton finishing kit).

$1900 for full GRX 600 with hydro brakes and DT Swiss wheels. Lot of bike for the money. Definitely recommend checking out their stuff.
