Had to grab a new brake lever today. I was riding home from shopping with a full BOB, pulled on the brake at a red light and the thing just popped and fell off. I think what happened is I cross threaded the retaining bolt on the hinge and have been living on borrowed time ever since. Aluminum body, steel bolt and all that. Anyway, got lucky as the lbs was only about 10 minutes out of my way so stopped by and they were swamped. When they got to me I told my tale of woe, the mechanic found a used, hinged lever in the back, came out and handed me the lever and 2 allen wrenches, sort of smiled and said "you good for this one?" "Sure". Like I said, they were swamped. Of course, I've been a customer there for over 10 years. 5 minutes later all was good, the mechanic took a second to squeeze on a cable cap for me and they charged me $5 for the used lever (that actually looked brand new). Plus, the lever is black which looks a little better than the silver one I had on there. Gotta' love a good lbs.

if you're not supposed to be riding a setback then this seatpost will totally ruin your ride, regardless of quality

Nothing new for the fixed gear, but I recently rebuilt the rear wheel on my brevet bike with a DT RR1.1 rim and put a Thompson Elite post on it. I've got a Carradice Pendle and Bagman support on the way to replace the current rear rack and rack trunk I'm using.
