Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Roval Rapide CLX clinchers. We didn't get as far as rim depth, but he could have chosen between 40 and 60 millimeter versions.

Until you cover them up with a cassette, and then they are just invisible. In about 10 minutes you will have forgotten they are even there. Nope, at our age, 5 minutes.

Yeah....no kidding. Mrs. Doug28450 and I have been through this with her a hundred times. She typically has decent bike time, but her transition and run times tend to be horrible. We go through her results and she understands it, gets it. But then, after spending an hour with her looking at times and seeing where she could have dropped times, she will look at us and say....I need a tri bike.

Today I diagnosed a dog with an inoperable brain tumor. Also today the owner's husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Very bad day for that lady.

I did a big gory emergency spinal surgery in a labrador the day before I left for my conference. Korean guy who I didn't think was understanding what I was explaining even though he kept assuring me he did. The surgery department was looking after the dog in my absence and the resident who discharged the dog told me today that when the owner came to pick up the dog he was asking all kinds of questions about the hip replacement. Doh! Not a hip replacement, not at all.

Tomorrow I have a 2 hour trainer workout. I will be looking at my bike computer at least 75% of the time & using the data as it appears.

PS I'm also going to get some faster wheels. For the Sparrow.

PPS I will put tubeless tires on them.

It simply demonstrates that cables break, that could leave you gear-less on the road. That has happened to me more than once, but I've never had electronic shifting fail in any way.

I got my warrantied Red derailleur today. First time I took out the fancy road bike in a month-ish. That bike flies. Sometimes I think about selling it (to get a new one), but then I have a ride like that that just reminds me how fantastic it is. It's 3.5 years old and I have an itch for the updated one, but man, nothing rides like an SL3.

Other news I feel happy to share, I am very likely to get the newly purchased frame(used) built up this week.

I've done that. I've also ridden a bike inside a bike shop. If you have a small enough BMX bike and sufficient room on the shop floor, you can go from work table to tool cabinet and back all while still on the bike. Theoretically, if you had a fairly clear path and a unicycle, you could ride from your easy chair to the kitchen to get a beer/soda and back. I'll probably never try it but it seems possible.

She is a sophomore in HS, taking a summer school class and was planning to ride the bike to school. I was volunteered to pump up the tires. A few minutes later the girl knocks on the door and we head to the garage. The bike looks like this:

Pure - Trek Bicycle

The front is dead flat and flopping around on the rim like a fish out of water. The back seems to be okay, just a bit soft. I get the pump and start looking for the valve stem on the front tire. Can't find the valve stem. Keep looking, rotating the tire, no stem. Finally, I see a hole in the rim where a valve stem should be projecting. I look at her and say I can't help you. You need a tube and I don't have on for this size tire. Go to Wal-Mart, get a tube for this tire. When you get back bring everything over and I will fix it.

She never did come back with a tube.
I hate to say it but I like that bike. Kinda reminds me of the ones on the Copenhagen Cycle Chic site.
