Cost of replacing gears and bearings
Hi guys! Thanks for accepting my membership. Any idea how much a bike shop might charge for replacing a 7 speed Shimano cassette? Also what would replacing the wheel bearings cost. I live in New Jersey.

The bearings themselves cost pennies each.
Cones will cost dollars (~$10) if they are pitted.
Axles will be about $12-15 if replacement is deemed necessary.
The labor is usually about a buck a minute. Count on a 30 minute minimum.
The cassette is variable, depending. $20 & up. Sunrace makes ones that are both cheap & good. Shimano is ok, but Sunrace is cheaper for same quality.

Covid shortages, you never know where the shop may have to source the parts. Even still, that probably is a little high for 7 speed.

Finding a bike shop that will do it in a reasonable amount of time... Ha. Think... 60 to 80 bucks and hope they do it right!
Do it yourself... Fun Fun Fun... for 35.00 USD. Don't be afraid.
Whip tools to remove cassette = 14.00 USD
Shimano Freewheel tool if needed = 6.00 USD
Bearings about = 5.00 USD
Basic cone wrench set = 10.00 USD
Plenty of Youtubes to show you how and this forum too...

As always before one buys parts, verify it is a "Cassette".
The majority of 7-speed rear clusters are FREEWHEELS.
Hopefully a good shop stocks parts for both types of rearends, and will take the guess work out.

I am planning to do it myself in the near future as well. But the sealed bearings are so expensive. Original FSA, or aftermarket NTN or SKF are $20 each. I need six bearings for the wheels. I found ntn for $10 each on eBay shipping from China. I'm thinking of getting those. Any suggestions?
