In an effort to do my part to keep this thread going until the end of August, I'll put in a couple of quick pics of my half violet-half jade green Basso Gap, 1987. Really great go-fast bike. Yes, I know, the matching color water bottles are a bit much, but it was a slow day, so I played around alittle!

I almost forgot this old Hard Rock Ultra was purple. Thrift store bike sale find, $25. Sorry for the busy background; photo taken in a big hurry.

I love that deep purple color, especially with the leather(?) seat and tape. Also the bag. Not sure why this post landed here. I was replying to rustystrings61.

Just Under The Wire! Two hand made beauties... Duell & Scot
Turns out I have two purple bikes for August... a 1950s Flying Scot by David Rattray (Glasgow, Scotland) and a beautiful 1980s Duell Solo by Jan Van Dalen (Hoek van Holland, Nederland). Both hand made, lightweight, racing bikes. Love 'em both!

I picked up a matching set of purple UO8's with the intention of parting them out, but before I did so, I wanted to ride one to see what they're about. Reminds me very much of a Fuji S-10S that I had from the same period. These are pretty bikes and are cheap enough.

This one was found on Facebook Marketplace. Looked to be in like new shape, I added fenders and a rack. Made my Daughter's Christmas.

Late '80s? Ross Adventurer, hi-ten frame with steelies and cheap components, but decently lugged. CL freebie, rear wheel is taco-ed. We'll probably build it up for a farmer friend who has been wanting a bike. It's too dark, and with too much blue, to be pink. Fuschia? Is fuschia a shade of purple?

2002 Mercian Vincitore custom road fixed-gear, frame built by Derek Land, with Miche Primato cranks and BB, Nitto lugged stem and mod. 176 Dream bars, Stronglight A9 headset, Dia-Compe levers with RX100 level dual pivots with Scott-Matthausers, SunTour XC9000 (?) front hub, Surly "New" Track hub rear, MA2 rims, 28mm Paselas, Brooks B17 Champion Special with Nitto Jaguar post, c.1998 Carradice Nelson saddlebag, and many many miles on it. I love this bike, and it is time to put some new bearings in the hubs!

Looks like a period-correct Silca Impero with the steel Campy head (heaps better than the cheap plastic stock head). BITD, those were the shizzle*. Any Topeak pump you can get today will leave it in the dust, and will way outlast it.
* ('Course, BITD, we didn't say "shizzle", but I digress.......)

Yeah, the Topeak pumps all look very modern. If you're looking for period-correct, go for that Silca, or a Zefal.

This one has purple and imho is gacked for it, seller embellished when he supposedly got it from Greg Meeker who used it as a training bike.
It is fairly certain that it was built by Micheal Bornstein, possibly when he worked In Portland for Andy Newlands at Strawberry around 1986.
Both Andy and Jeffery Bock from Ames Iowa agree on this. Bornstein worked out of Micheals bike shop in Ames where Meeker. Hampsten, Howard and many others raced out of. It has Campy brakes engraved "Micheals Ames Iowa" so who knows.
It has some stellar details, Andy had me pull the front wheel so he could show the fork crown to a couple of other builders at show at Velo Cult a couple of weeks ago.
He wants me to have Bock restore it but it's small for me so quite aways down the list for now.

Great looking bike with an interesting history. The geometry looks very steep, more like a track bike. Not sure those two colors match-up, but it's interesting. Maybe the decals, ( if it ever had any) matched the purple or something. Hard to believe that a pro team could ever be based put of Iowa. No mountains!
Sadly, August is behind us. Great thread ending bike though.
