9 speed DA 7700 cluster on DA 7402 8 speed cassette?
I've got a DA 7402 130mm rear hub with 8 speed cassette freehub. Does anyone know if a stock 9 speed DA 7700 cluster will fit? Guessing not but hoping Shimano tightened the spacing on the 7700 and it may be compatible.

No, it won't fit. The overall width of Shimano 8 and 9 speed cassettes are the same, but Dura Ace 8 speed freehubs use a different spline pattern.

Double check your Dura Ace 7402 to verify what you’ve got… use 2 chain whips and unscrew the outer UG locking cog.
A special splined Shimano tool is needed to actually remove the freehub body (the 7400 series use coarse threaded bolt with sharp threads that you do not apply grease to).

Not the 7700 freehub body but the transitional “7403” freehub body accepts both the UniGlide threaded outer locking cog or Hyperglide lockring to accept 8, 9 or 10 speed Shimano HG cassettes.
Double check your Dura Ace 7402 to verify what you’ve got… use 2 chain whips and unscrew the outer UG locking cog.

Correct! Since you are securing your HG cassette with an HG lockring it appears you have a 7403 hub. The spline pattern is actually the same. So you can run a 9 or 10 speed cassette on there. You might not be able to run an 11 tooth cog though, if that is important to you.
