I was racing myself home and yelled at the dog who was pulling me out of the line by my leg. I should have opened a gap and sucked the wheel, but I ruined a good frame pump when jamming between his teeth and my legs. Not having any finess, he took the lead and surged ahead and stabbed the brakes. Next time, I'll form a rotating line and give him a hip check to the curb.
Lesson learned. (And no, I didn't whine. I yelled.)

seems like you are trying to set people up for failure. If the rides are that structured and hardcore, maybe you shouldn't allow new riders to jump in on the line. This would spare you from coming across so insecure and would save other cyclists from having ride with you and your annoying friends.

I got to page 8 or something then lost interest at this point:
Translation: I ride solo so that I can always be at the front, I set the pace+distance and if there is a crash it is MY FAULT alone. That and I only have one gear.
Tom's post has given me inspiration for a new sig...something like this:
I ride solo
Translation: I am unwilling, disinclined, unable, not socially adept enough, or afraid to ride in a group/paceline, but I withold the right to pass judgment on those who arent any of the above. And will post in every thread possible the fact that I ride solo.

stole your bike
What I'm about to post has nothing to do with getting yelled at on a group ride, it does have to do with yelling at someone: cyclists texting while riding. This morning one of these multi tasking mush-for-brains almost plows into me and a cyclist going in the opposite direction because he was attempting to type a message. Maybe I'm just getting old but I don't understand why on earth people feel compelled to endanger the safety of others this way. [/rant]

Finish line
I feel like I just completed a small stage race. After about four days of reading a few pages, taking a break to do other things, coming back a few hours later and reading a few more pages, I read this thread from start to finish...every...single...post.
I'm just getting back into the sport after a rather lengthy hiatus, but this thread is a good reminder of just about everything about that comes with being a roadie -- from the culture to the etiquette and the safety.
I fully expect to be yelled at or maybe even tugged on when I get back into group rides. And I'll stop, take a deep breath, think of this thread, smile, and resolve to do better next time.

So on a ride yesterday this guy comes wailing up along the right side of the paceline and starts yelling at one rider (who may or may not have been doing something worth yelling about).
The rider in back of the rider doing the something starts yelling at the guy for passing on the right.
The guy yells back.
The two start yelling at each other simultaneously, riding side by side.
The rider in front of them (the one originally maybe doing the something) now starts yelling at both of them to Shut Up.
During all of this, I just LOL'd. Er, I mean YOL'd.

Okay...I just spent several hours off and on reading this thread. I've seen it surface occasionally and wondered what the heck was going on with it. How could a thread from that long ago still be relevant...
A strange thing happened as I read it. I watched others go from righteous indignation at the OP to agreeing with him. I watched the almost monthly chumming for new fish. I watched posters write about how they would react if pulled off their bike by the jersey (nevermind that wasn't what was suggested). I watched posters reply that they'd react physically to be being yelled at.
And as I read, I actually learned something. Not about riding pacelines or group etiquette, but about how I react to stuff I read here. I was a little put off by the OP...not at what was said but how I INTERPRETED what was said...and I was wrong.
I also found myself experiencing that emotion that you get as you approach the end of a satisfying novel, or series of novels...that "oh no, it's coming to an end" feeling. I wanted to get to post 1599 for the sense of accomplishment (yeah, I know...get a life ) but I didn't want the fun of the thread to be over.
This is my favorite BF thread ever...thanks EventServices for originating it; PCAD, botto, umd, DrPete, mollusk, and too many others for continuing to breathe life into it.
This should never be a sticky...it should continue to troll the waters and hook new unsuspecting BF members. There aren't many things at BF more fun than watching a fairly new member read that first page and post their angry reply...
We're going to yell at you???? We all should be so lucky!

The OP states at the start of his post that they ride a double echelon at 30 mph. This is clearly elite-level cycling and not for the less experienced! It only takes one mistake and a bunch of riders can go down, and at that speed it is very dangerous (voice of experience).
