Williamsburg area tour ideas?

Had a thought about a short tour in the Williamsburg, VA area to see some historical areas. Has anyone done one or have a route suggestion??
Thanks!

The Capital Trail connects Williamsburg and Richmond. It's a about 60 miles from the colonial capital to the capital grounds in Richmond. You can stop at some of the historic plantations along the way.

That trail is exactly 53 miles long. All paved away from the road. Some drive crossings. There is also a colonial bike route, but honestly it's better to walk in Williamsburg.

There is also the Colonial Parkway that runs from Yorktown to Williamsburg to Jamestown. About 25 miles of wide road you'll share with cars and the surface is exposed aggregate so it's a buzzy feel as the miles pile up. From Jamestown you can also take the free ferry across the James River to the Surry side for more riding.

Virginia has a moderately decent state bike map, which might help with your planning. See Bicycling and Walking in Virginia

+1 on the Colonial Parkway and the new Capital Trail to Richmond.

It's a pretty area in which to bike, but beware that some of the smaller roads don't have much in the way of shoulders at all.
