Agreed. My brother is on active surveillance right now and the doctor just has a watch on the situation.

About to get real for me. Four appointments next week. Urologist, Radiation Oncologist and two surgeons. Leaning toward surgery at the moment, but keeping an open mind.

Suggestion that at Dr. visits you have another person with you at all times and DON"T RUSH INTO TREATMENT without a little digesting what's suggested and researching suggestions.

Good LUCK.

Good LUCK.
In normal times, having another person with you at all times is really good advice.

But right now, in many places, there are no visitor policies. It's definitely wicked harder to do this solo, but here we are.

p.s. If you want to know when you can resume bicycling after biopsy or after prostatectomy, ask your doctor. My docs said that's an unusual question, but they had answers.

Decided on surgery - 4/19. I believe I will be able to get back on the bike about 8 weeks after surgery. Plus or minus depending on how recovery goes.

You are in our thoughts.

My only advice:

Listen to your body, and tell your doctors what your body is telling you.

Listen to your doctors, do what they ask of you, and just as importantly, don’t do what they ask you not to do.

I know it’s hard to stay off the bike, but stay off of it for the time they ask you to.

And I know walking in Central Florida in May and June can be hard, but if they let you walk, find somewhere to walk. Even if it’s mall walking.

And know that you are going in to this with all the advantages of already being physically active.

Again, listen to your body, tell your doctors, and listen to your doctors. You are on a team now.

I will have to work up to that. My longest ride to date is 65 miles. 160 miles would be a bit of a stretch. But I think I can get there in time.

Just got my shirt and bib for X-Florida in the mail and included in the packet is information about another Cross Florida on October 30 --- "Sea2Key" ride is from Ormand Beach to Cedar Key and it's 200 miles. I'm thinking about registering and maybe you could work your way up to it by OCT????

That would certainly be a good goal. Planning a more than 65 mile ride for Saturday to set a new personal longest ride before my surgery. A goal for 2021 was a 100 mile ride. That was set back by the cancer diagnosis, but I think still doable. Beyond 100 miles is probably also doable. I will have to see how I progress. A little better every day.

You've already crossed a metric century. Know that once you've done a metric century, you CAN do a century. You have NOTHING to prove. After, OR before.

Please double check with your docs about how they want you to prepare for your surgery. You are just a couple of weeks out.

You are talking about a few weeks of your life before and after surgery.

(If it helps more, some of my happiest times on my bike have been the first 10k after my body forced me off my bike. Ashamed to say, it's always been a beer run. After my surgery in July, my first BIKE goal is to go get a beer.)

Wonderful to hear from you, but please know that you don't have to update us, but also know that you have been and will continue to be in our thoughts. (Returning home after surgery is a huge milestone.)

Good luck and if you feel comfortable, would like to know results.

p.s. -- Many men do not want to inform others regarding prostate issues and I get it but I have found that being totally transparent about my castration, Gleason 10 treatment along with the higher probability of metastasis resulting in earlier death has made living life much less stressful. THE REALITY OF GL10 CANCER is that it can very well kill me thus forcing me to push on as hard as I can even while in pain.

I am in a similar boat with GL 9. I have been open with it and have had tremendously positive feedback from everybody. Also helping me be more free to make decision about enjoying the here and now.

I like the pictures you paint with your rides on Strava.

Yes, robotic assist - Dr Vipul Patel in Orlando Florida. He did a great job. Very happy with care. Post op path report favorable. Clean margins, lymph nodes negative. Next I check PSA in early June. Hoping "undetectable".

Six weeks post surgery. Rode bicycle three miles yesterday. Felt okay. Going to ease back in slowly. Legs felt very weak, but I think they will come back quickly. Resumed running about a week ago. Going slow and easy.
