Ultra Torque install Q and chainsize Q
Getting ready to refit a Record crankset into my Gunnar Roadie.
Bottom bracket is BSA and nice clean, it’s steel. The Record ultra torque cups have some kind of yellow stuff painted on the threads.
1. Do I apply grease, or anti seize, or do I just run them in the way they came?
2. I’m installing a new campy chain at the same time. Current cassette is 13/26 but I may go up to 13/29 if the compact gearing up front doesn’t give me a low enough gearing for the hills in my area. So with a 3t larger cog is there a way to size the chain so I wouldn’t have to add a link or more if I decide I need to go to the 29t large cog? RD is Chorus 10.

There are a number of BF threads on this. I believe it is thread locker, maybe Loctite yellow. Whether you use as is, remove it and use Locktite blue or purple, or remove it and use grease is up to you and maybe a lot of in-coming opinions.
John
Edit: Added BF to not confuse with cup threads.

My steel and titanium frames have Record BB installed on them. Keep the Campy thread locker in place and add some light grease such as white lithium to the BB shell threads, then wrap the BB cups with three wraps of teflon thread tape. It works perfectly on my frames. Never come loose and come apart without any trouble. My nickels worth of wisdom.
