Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That's how Shimano goes, but it's more complicated for Campy, they changed their splines at some point, I think it was when they went 9s. However, cramming ten cogs on a 8s cassette body would be totally doable if you had the means to machine a billet cassette to suit, since Shimano didn't try as hard as they could to package the cassette tightly, and Campy tried even less hard. Increasing dish shouldn't be necessary. I modified a billet 10s cassette to fit a Shimano RS80 wheel I retrofit with a 7s cassette body to reduce the dish, and Campy's 8s cassette spacing was wider than Shimano's. If the cassette is wider than the splines, it can be made to overhang on the flange side quite a bit. Although on a Shimano hub there's probably a bit more flexibility with closing the gap between cassette body and dropout a tad, I'm sure it's still possible.
definitely easier with Shimano. Campy has changed spline set up at least twice between eight speed chorus and new. In my case, I wanted to use my modern wheels (the Sv’s backup I9’s) with my vintage Chorus). I used a new campy freehub from I9, a new nine speed campy veloce cassette (all loose cogs), dropped the largest cog and a fellow I was introduced to online came up with some beautifully machines spacers to match the indexing on the 8spd brifters. Shifts beautifully and my vintage bike has a nice comfy set of wheels set tubeless.

Very nice! I would say no to the dark blue decals. The blue bar plugs are not really needed, either. That's moving into the "trying too hard" territory.

I’m a bit on the fence about the bar plugs. If they matched the light blue of the frame they would look better, but I’ll probably go back to nondescript black.

I have to stop looking at this build. It keeps reminding me that I shouldn't have sold my Storck. I actually like this build with the blue bar tape, but still a HOT with all the new subtle changes.

Thank you. I almost liked the blue bar tape. The blue of the tape didn't quite match the blue at the top of the frame, and the mismatch bothered me. It works better in my head with black

I tried to go through the whole thread but skipped about 15 pages in the middle. To me robbyville's Speedvagen is the hottest bike here...

Super hot! That color sparkles in the sun. I really like those rims, but I think the color would be a tad off on my bike.

Thanks seypat. Yeah, the blue is a great match for my frame but wouldn't work on yours. The silver wheels look great on yours.

The TT on mine should be level, but the fork is not original. Some time in the past, the fork got swapped for this one which is Tange Prestige. I'm guessing the original headset failed as they did on occasion. The original headset had a smaller crown race size. I guess the new headset on a different fork was the quickest solution. It should have a fork that matches the frame with a chrome crown like this one that I am touching up the paint on. This frame/fork was given to me by another member. I am building it up with inspiration from his builds. That's just old housing I was using to get a mock up/vision of what it will look like.

My eyes keep telling me I should not like the chainstay placement, but my brain is exercising veto power. And something about the way the chainring and chain accent everything makes it nuclear reactor hot.

I usually don't like the diagonal color breaks on the current paint jobs, but this one works. The chain sticks out in a good way. Not like one of the hideous Gangsta gold ones. Don't usually care for that style of tape either, but it's working on this one. Super hot!

Thanks guys!! I'm really happy with how this bike is coming along, and as an added bonus, it rides and handles great!! lol

I need to get some pics with the sun, the new wheels have a satin finish that looks really good, but it was overcast so it didn't come through in these shots.

To be honest, I didn't notice the wheelset. Pretty much looks like a carbon wheelset.
