Thanks FBOATSB : I understood the mechanics but meant more (excuse the cliche) what are friends for? In the context of the board what does having a friend mean?

No clue. Maybe forum members that ride together in groups, social gatherings and such like the other social media. Maybe someone that actually uses that friends list will chime in here....

I have a couple of friends, but it really doesn't seem to change anything settings wise.
I like the people on my friends list, otherwise I'd be tempted to see what happens if I kept them on my friends list and put them on my ignore list simultaneously.
