Got this Bianchi at a garage sale today.

I got this bianchi volpe at a garage sale today for $100. It needs time tlc but I think it’s in good condition overall. Frame is straight and has no cracks, wheels are true, gear changes smooth, wheels and crank spin well, brakes work. Will change tires, take apart clean and put it together.
can anyone tell me when this was built? And an approximate value ?
only code I was able to read is frame number N69935
any leads appreciated.

edit: shut wont let me post pics or link to photos

You hit one out of the park by posting a line drive side picture to your Album.

(I will bench myself now.)

(Taking myself out of the game, while it's safe, before I slide any further and have to be dug out of the hole I'm digging.)

Looks like an ‘89 but the Suntour derailleurs and Barton’s have been swapped out. Great deal for 100 if it fits.

I have owned a couple of Volpes and they are great bikes, in my opinion. I ride a Bianche Touring, a near clone of the Volpe as my Jamaica bike and it is the best rider in my humble collection. I don't keep it all shiny because it just gets dirty quickly on the mall paved roads, but the ride quality, gearing and braking performance are second to none, in my opinion. $100 is a steal, in my opinion. My Bianchi Touring...

The Volpe is versatile, and well regarded. I had gotten a deal on one, but the frame size was too small. I was hoping to use it as a touring bike. Anyway, it sold fast. Cleaned, adjusted and lubed they are worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $300 around my area.

Just in case I run up on one sometime, what is the max tire width with the Volpe? Nice score for $100.

Looks like self-energizing cantis? I've always wanted to try those.

You can go at least 700Cx35 with a Volpe.

Self-energizing brakes are designed to amplify the braking force as the brake pad meets the rim and the rim rotates forward. I don't know if it's the shape of the arm or an internal cam or some other sorcery that accomplishes this, but that's what they are.

I think it's the angle of the brake pivot is skewed so as to be slightly 'not' in the direction of the rims. I had CLB2's on a bike and almost went over the bars a couple of times. Effective but sometimes dangerous.

From Velobase.
