This is a J.C Higgins/Sears Ladies Sportflite bike. Is it of this era? Maybe searching J.C Higgins instead of Sears? (Not my bike or picture; found on the interwebs).

@Bikehaus
Bravo, this may be the best first pics posting I have ever seen here in my almost 7 years.
Not my wheelhouse so others will have to weigh in.
Welcome aboard, glad you found us and stuck it out.
You may want to visit The Cabe, this is more their speed and they know a lot more about this sort of thing.

The 10 posts is a simple anti spam measure that serves us very well, unwillingness to cooperate is counterproductive and we really want to help and always try to.

The number punched on the dropout doesn't correspond to Huffy though, and the chainring is identical to the Sportflite tandem bikes sears sold, and this has a sportflite chainguard that is not chopped off from a tandem. I have found two other single person sportflite online, but cannot find them listed in sears catalogs from 58 to 72. Their tandem bikes look like the sportflite tandems online with this chainring. This is maddening.

there should be a Sears item number (not serial) stamped into the underside of the bottom bracket shell
it will begin with a three digit prefix which is a code indicating the actual manufacturer
for example "502" is Murray and "503" is Puch/Steyr of Austria
the combination of the Fichtel & Sachs Komet hub with a one-piece chainset is somewhat odd - sending mixed messages with respect to national origin
here is a forum post from the owner of a Murray built cycle which came from the factory with a Fichtel & Sachs Komet rear hub; so evidenlty there was a period in the late 1950's to early 1960's when they employed them
https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/gr...06/post-924363
the "36" marking on the subject hub is a plausible reverse year marking, i.e. 1963
the "161" could indicate the day of the year (wylde speculation )
---
EDIT:
did some additional checking
the letter stamped into the hub shell indicates the year of manufacture
the letter H on the subject hub indicates the year 1965
