Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm naming this one Winter Storm Douglet.

Velo Vol Threat Level raised to three in anticipation of Douglet.
As previously mentioned it is called Izzy. It was a nice thought naming it after the mighty Dougs.

I'm anticipating we're going to get a half inch of snow.

Shakedown Cruse completed!

First impressions
  • Fit - I managed to set up contact points bang on. Front hub disappears behind bars, hands fall to Ergos, neither pushing back nor reaching out for bars, and I can lift hands off Ergos without falling forward.
  • Frame - doesn't feel noodly at all - no surprise there. Comfy, no searching for the smoothest line on 'textured' pavement. Rings like a goddam BELL when hit by the little stones that usually just go *plink* with steel or *thunk* with Carbon. Stable hands off, stable at 30 mph, though that's true of every bike I own.
  • Kit - Now I remember why I fell in love with 7410 Dura Ace back when I got the Ritchey - this triple chainring stuff is crap. Sorry if you like them, but seriously - I was never able to NOT think about it. Two cogs in any direction and I have to trim the FD. Shifting to either ring from a smaller one requires overshifting and then backing off. What a PAIN!!!
Overall - I cannot WAIT to get the 7410 DA kit on this bike. Even without really trying, and even after I slowed down after a loud *PING!!* which I'm certain was a stone strike, I STILL got a "Second Best" on a 5 mile segment on Strava I've done 290 times!

Here's a pic "in the wild". I hope it will look different next Saturday! I'll wait to name it till after that.

Bored out of my friggin gourd.

Wife is still feverish and feeling crummy. Don’t know what she has, but feel like I have to avoid being around others. Already did fake miles, watched car racing, basketball, and golf. Puzzles are all done. This sucks.

Well, engine repairs to my beloved Avalanche have gone completely off the frigging rails. Displacement on Demand lifter came apart in the engine. That was the noise I was hearing. Decided to delete the Dod and VVt systems. I'm waiting on a cam cover. I thought of just about everything, just not that damn cover. It'll be here tomorrow. Eff you GM. I'm so tired and sore....

Today I worked for 4.5 hours, took a 2 hour nap and I'm still in bed trying to get the motivation to go downstairs. The last day I didn't work was December 27th which was our holiday for Christmas. The good news is I don't plan on working tomorrow or next weekend. This isn't unusual which is why I want to GTFO ASAP. Prolly won't retire for another 3 years.
Rant over.

In Olden Dayes, our ancestors had things called "books", with which to while away the hours.....

That's the funny thing, though, isn't it? If you COULD go out and be around other people, you might find yourself enjoying the time alone. But HAVING TO BE alone, it can feel oppressive.

It's been so long since I've read a book that I can't remember what it was. As much as I have to read for work, I just don't enjoy it anymore. Shame really, because I used to read a lot for entertainment.

I just finished some musical activity, so that should please VV.

I enjoy car racing and golf, bith doing and watching.

Next up, cooking dinner for one and a half.

the usual BS.

It's partially my fault because I don't do anything half assed. Most people would cut corners and call it close enough. I wish I could because my life would be much easier.

The work ethic I've seen since I began my career in 1985 sucks. People want to put in the minimum and expect the maximum compensation. The ones that bring the least value seem to be the ones who expect the most.

On top of it all I'm busting my ass everyday feeling lousy for the past year and I have to observe the slackers. Getting acclimated to retirement for me will be no problem. I just hope I'm physically able to do the things I want to.
