Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Speaking of turntables and associated goodies, I just sold a tube phono stage last week - it took all of one day to move it on craigslist. In addition to the kitchen refresh, a part of making ourselves comfortable in this house, for another handful of years, is clearing out some of the crap. The phono stage was one of the things that, although nice, had been sitting unused for too long.

I also have a couple of amplifiers that need some love, and I need to decide what to do with them. One is rather nice and I'd love to have it back up and running, but it'll probably cost more than I want to put in to it (it would be for a secondary system and pretty decadent for that role).

Got rid of my vinyl in 2012 when we moved to our current house. Don’t really miss it. I listen to a lot of music.

I listen to a lot of music, too. My vinyl rig also has a bluetooth receiver hooked up to the AUX inputs on the preamp. However, I sometimes enjoy the ceremony of whipping out a 12", giving it a whirl, and listening to a whole album.

Blinded studies show digital to be superior or indistinguishable from high quality analog. Claims to the contrary are like the subjective silliness we read here about frames and wheels.

I find the ceremonial routine of playing a record, and listening to a full side of an album to be calming and rewarding. The digital music format eliminates the ceremony, and invites ADD listening habits. My wife drives me nuts in this regard. She can barely listen to a full song before she feels the urge to find something else.

I agree about the ritual, the objects, and the fascination of the mechanical process. It’s all great.

Yes, I have it on an external hard drive. I listen to various stuff every day at work some days I pick it and some days I let the player pick 8 hours of random stuff. I probably listen to the Beatles every day. With Dylan I go hot and cold. His 60's stuff I like the best.

I have vinyl and a turntable but no receiver to play it through. Also, digital is portable and can be played on a phone or PC. As far as sound quality? Who cares if your hearing is not great? I also don't have time to devote to parking in 1 spot to listen to an album. YMMV.
