HELP !!! A Buddy Of Mine......
......is offering me a well used and much modified Rocky Mountain "Oxygen Race" mountain bike (I think). The equipment group is Deore XT but the crank assy is now a Race Face 175mm item instead of what was (probably) originally a Shimano unit. The bike is now set up as a 3 x 9 with what appears to be some kind of Shimano cassette.
The entire front end is a Marzocchi item which looks pretty fancy. The frame appears to have original paint and stickers and it's a nice shade of yellow. The s/n looks to be TB21775.
My buddy is the 2nd owner (he says) and has zero idea of the year of this bike and thus my dilemma of how much to offer him.
Are there any RM people out there with knowledge of this model ??
I'm totally "at sea" with anything to do with modern-ish mountain bikes so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this it? This is the only yellow that stands out with a Google image search. Not sure I'd call 1998 "modernish"

If not, a photo would help.

Why always the lack of pictures? Do people think that actually seeing what they have is not useful for some reason?

Here's one for sale for $500CAD... https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3020836/
Looking at other pics in a Google search, it seems that the Marzocchi Bomber fork was standard on this bike. Most of them I'm seeing with SRAM parts, so the Shimano XT might have been an upgrade at some point, along with the Race Face cranks. While this is hardly a "modern-ish" bike, it likely would do just fine for someone just starting out MTB'ing as long as it is in good working condition, and would probably serve you a lot better than a new bike for the same money (which would be crap). If you have more money to spend, I would suggest going with something that actually is more "modern-ish" (within the last decade).
Here's another one for $350CAD... https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3286426/

I'd expect the bike to need a full servicing (grease bearings, fork bushings, cables, housing, brake pads, etc...) So I'd value it at $200 USD, maybe $250 come spring if it is rideable as is and the fork is OK.
Sounds like it's not for sale anyway so you are back on the hunt.

Unless it's as clean as those above I'd value it about as high as a free puppy
