Its a 62, same size as the one Im riding. Im 6'3 so it doesnt seem so big when Im on it, but you put it next to another persons bike and it looks real big.

I'm Brian, and I recently moved to Encino (San Fernando Valley) from Agoura (Conejo Valley/Malibu area) because I just got married!!! I got back into cycling this Spring after taking 7 years off for college and a teaching degree. Now I'm teaching middle school so I get off earlier enough to ride before the sun goes down (then grade and plan assignments of course). Weekday afternoons, I ride solo for about an hour locally, and weekends I find longer routes or ride with the easy/moderate guys in the SFVBC.

Hi Brian... since I work from home, I'm totally flexible during the week. Let me know if you want someone wheel sucking on your weekday rides. I'm doing 60-90 min during the week. I am not sure if I'll make it on any of the SFVBC rides this weekend, but if I don't, next weekend for sure. I have the form all made out, just haven't sent it in yet?

Not sure who will be sucking the wheel since I just got off a month break for my wedding, honeymoon, and moving, but I'm up for company any time. So far I'm trying to establish a routine of riding every Tue and Thu around 4:00/5:00. I'll PM you my number.

I'm Timothy. I live and work in venice. my commute is 5 blocks by beach cruiser. I get annoyed when another bike is chained to my no parking sign.

We ride the santa monicas mostly. There are a ton of canyons, so lots of climbing. When I get bored, we head south on the beach path to playa del rey. I try not to do that in the summer evenings as the fire pits along dockwiler can be suffocating.

Sundays are reserved for inline downhill. We hit latigo and mulholland above the rock store after 3:00 pm almost every sunday.

When its not too hot to wear leathers, we go out to GMR and GRR, as well as Baldy. Yesterday's ride was fun because that was the first time I've done it on a bike. I know GRR and GMR pretty well, so it was fun picking the line on a bike.

Baldy is hell steep for inlines, especially when you don't use brakes...just throw a few slides to slow down and hope you have wheels left to stop at the end of the run.

I put in 100-120 miles/week. I'd love to kick that up a notch, but I never plan on racing.

I'll edit this and add a pic when I get time. meanwhile, off to eat sushi-the other obsession.

Hi! I'm new, and know very little about cycling compared to what I've seen on here so far. I own a 16-year old, bmx kids' bike, but recently upgraded to a Trek 3700 MTB i found on craigslist. Like my screename says: shorty, I guess I'm on the short side, so my bike's 16 inches. That's about all I know about my bikes. haha, sorry it's not very interesting. The old one I still ride and i still like it a lot, cause the size makes it so easy to handle. It still has the original tires, one of the pedals is held together with a shoelace, the brakes barely work, and it's rusting, so I want to fix it up. I need to take some pics of it to post in here.
For the most part I ride with my brother up a small hill and down this trail, but about a month ago I fell (I basically just tipped over when I couldn't make it up a bump. nothing remotely cool) and was traumatized; now I can't go down that trail again like i used to. I suck at riding on the street too, and am too ashamed to ride on the sidewalk. So yea, that's my story, haha. Nice to 'meet' you all!

Hi, I am Bernie from San Gabriel. I am really really newbie. Start riding this Summer with my 10 year old boy. Brought him a Giant Boulder MTBR, then got myself a Trek 8200. We've been riding every weekend at places like around the Rosebowl, the San Gabriel River & went to the Redondo Beach one time. Love to ride but don't know much about the cycling world. Been catching up reading everything I can find on the net. After reading about all the people's riding adventure, I am not even sure that I should have bought a road bike instead of the mountain bike.

Recently got serious about cycling earlier this year when me and some friends decided to start doing triathlons regularly.

Picked up a road bicycle sometime in march and have been doing my best to ride it at least once a week. I also try to swim 2-3 times a week and run once a week.

I usually hit the Santa Ana River trail once or twice a month (starting @ Green River Road) and will usually ride half the trail to Angel Stadium and back, maybe all the way to the beach if we're feeling really ambitious (round trip is 31 miles for half the trail, 62 for going all the way to the beach).

My other regular ride includes riding from montclair to rancho cucamonga (my friends house to chaffey college) which includes monte vista and baseline. Big climb most of the way up but coming back down is alot of fun (about 28 miles round trip).

I plan to start riding around the city alot more often though. I'd ride to work but it's 35-40 miles away in East Los Angeles...

My bicycle: 2005 Giant TCR2. Mostly stock except for the addition of Crankbrothers Quattro SL pedals afew months ago. Also added cyclometer, pouches, minipump, and extra water bottle cage so i can ride anywhere and still survive.

My name is Mike, I have been riding for just over a year. I bought my Orbea in August of 2005 and have pretty much been hooked ever since. I ride about an hour a night 2-4 times a week and then at least one longer weekend ride between 30-60miles, but normally try to get both days in.

Awesome, I did the metric last year but will probably be attempting the full century this time around. The hill you are refering to is spelled Godde, and yes it is quite nasty.

Thats its... Godde.....yup...very nasty and windy as well..
We are doing the metric....my buddy did the century last year, he said it was pretty tough...but we are city boys...you guys are used to riding out there with no stops, big hills and the wind blowing...
We did go put Lake Elizabeth Rd one time to Munz Ranch road....awesome downhill...I actually got up to 48mph...scary but fun...

Munz is one of our club climbs that we do quite often, obviously in the opppsite direction as the way you did it. If you want another awesome downhill you could go from Elizabeth Lake Rd and come over Johnson Rd.

We saw people coming up munz...looked tough..thats the problem with living down here..we have to stop all the time at lights and dont have the climbs you do...
Unfortunately, we don't get out there that much...so we try to train as best we can down here...

Catching up on things and realized I hadn't posted here.

I live in the Clairemont area of San Diego. I started riding over 30 years ago, raced for a bit, reaching Cat 2 status (mainly rode track, got to race with people like Roger Young, Mark Gorski, Rich Bryne, etc), burned out and quit riding. Career and family intervened and lots of years passed. My weight ballooned up, and I finally had enough when my older daughter got married and made me a grandpa. Started a strict diet, walking, then running. I'm mainly a runner these days, having run the last 2 Rock 'n Roll Marathons in San Diego. I started doing spin classes to supplement my run training, and got the bug to start riding again. I think I'm just an endorphin junkie, because I need to get my workout fix any way I can - running, on the bike, swimming (or at least trying to!!). Oh yes - I also do Bikram Yoga a couple times a week!!

90% certain I'm goin to do the metric at Tour de Poway. If I do, I hope to meet some of you there. I'll be riding my Cervelo Soloist Team

I've been meaning to post to this thread, but I always seem to get wrapped up in something else....

I'm Brian. In the mid 90's I got a Bianchi mountain bike and rode everywhere I could find -- I was living in CT then. In the late 90's, I got a Trek mountain bike and rode everywhere I could find -- I'm in SoCal now, and staying! Soon, age and injury caught up with me and I dropped off road riding. The Trek got stolen, and I decided that in an effort to quell my rising blood pressure and to stop driving, I'd get a new bike and commute. This was the Trek 7200 FX, which has been a great machine for getting me on the road. This was in March.

Since March, I've been cranking out the miles, getting used to riding in traffic, and LOVING IT!! So for my birthday (which is Sept. 14 -- c'mon wish me happy birthday!), my wife squirrelled away the money and let me go get a touring bike, which we agreed I could do after we completed our first tour along the SART. We picked up a 2005 Fuji Touring at the LBS in just my size for 40% off the sticker!! The wife's a fabulous negotiator.

I commute every day and we do longer rides on weekends and usually at least once a week. The wife rides her Electra Townie with her bright yellow helmet and her two-tone bell and drops all the competition in the cuteness category. You can find us tooling around Riverside, sometimes down Victoria, sometimes along the SART, through RCC, Fairmount Park, around UCR.... Our rides tend to be spontaneous and often involve a picnic and always earn us extra beer at the end of the day.

And hats off to BF for all that's to be learned about cycling techniques, safety, advocacy, where to ride, how to pick a bike, and so on. We should compile a book of the best of the best in the forums. It would be the best in the stacks to be sure.

I'm also a die-hard Linux user.

I ride an '06 Trek 1000 upgraded to an all Tiagra 9 speed group (excluding cranks) with Mavic CXP-23 rims. I've been riding that bike for a year now, although I do also have a late 70's Nishiki International fixie conversion I've been riding off and on for a few months as well.

I live in La Habra and ride pretty much anywhere in "the OC", although I tend to haunt La Habra Heights and the SART, with a few regular excursions into Brea/Yorba Linda and Whittier.

I've even been seen at a Midnight Ridazz or two, although 1500 people is too many so I haven't been there as of late.

I... uhm... I, er... well, I'm tired so I'm going to end this post and go to bed.

Great idea, Fixer. I just got word from Vertical Bob that you guys have started a SO CAL link and it's nice to put faces to the members here in our neck of the woods. I'm Mary Elizabeth, known as M.E. to my friends, and I ride all over the place with various riders (some have become dear friends in the process). I live in Sherman Oaks, so I split wheel time between Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley (where I ride with the Colavita guys when I'm feeling up to speed), Malibu and then all through the Pasadena area up into the mountains, with Baldy being the farthest East I've ridden (locally that is). I've met and ridden with many of the SFVBC members and probably quite a few BF riders as well. Here are a few pics.
