Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've been thinking about getting a weight vest for doing squats, maybe I should wear it for hill repeats too...

Man, I dunno what I'm doing down here in PHX, when perfect cycling conditions are available in Wyoming.

Air density. Colder air is more dense than warm. It makes a difference.

It's easier at 200 than it was at > 230, I can tell you that! I've still got considerable body fat at this weight, so I think if I can reduce that without losing lean muscle mass that would be good. I don't see going lighter than 190, though, even if I was once 170 at this height.

I think I'll probably find the next 10 lbs to be harder than the first 30, though.

It's been a long time since I've successfully patched a tube the first try. Maybe I should try a different glue. Of course these days I have Gatorskins on both bikes, so it's become less of an issue.

I have an appointment this afternoon, to get the brakes checked. I doubt it will cost even $10. I always make a point of giving this guy a nice tip.

The awful winds have stopped for now and it's just beautiful out. I cruised around and through the parks just now. Lots of branches down and a few big trees, too. One is about a 50 foot eucalyptus. Sad to see a tree that old go down. Eucalyptus were planted here years ago by farmers/ranchers to help block the wind. Most of them are gone now.

When I was a ute there were orchards of citrus trees all over the area and groves of olive trees. One of the parks near home was once a VA hospital but it was leveled in the 1971 earthquake. There is a section of road there which is lined with olive trees. They end up making a mess on the road.

Where I lived with my parents was adjacent to fields of cabbage and on a warm night the house was inundated with the aroma. It's all filled with houses now

She sounds crazier than my ex, or any of my exes.

I haven't patched a tube for so long that I couldn't begin to count the years. Given that, I rounded up every patch kit that I could find in my shop to bring with me to Arizona because I worried about having multiple flats. Shouldn't have worried because the roads have been pretty clean. However, I did pick up a construction staple a few days ago and was bored this morning and decided that I would patch it. The first 5 kits, none had been opened before, all had dried up glue. The 6th kit had glue that was thick but I decided to try it anyway. Spread the glue and it never got tacky. Gave up and threw the tube away.

I don't talk about fat.

My wife and I were in a shop this morning and my wife was trying on jerseys and the shop owner asked if I would like to try on one. I just laughed.

Took my daughter to the Harry Potter Enchanted forest in Leesburg a couple of nights ago. It was pretty amazing, but super cold. I was feeling sick before we got there, and got progressively worse. Today the sinus blockage plus headache was insane. Nothing I did would clear my head. So I officially missed one day of squats. Not sure If I should make it up by doing 200 tomorrow or just add a day to this event. I am hoping I feel well enough to ride tomorrow. 66 miles gets me to 9k.
