Veloplugs rant

I got some red (small) veloplugs. They are too small for my son's MTB rim, as expected. Now I tried to put them in an Araya CT-19N rim. They absolutely will not go in. Then I tried it on a Mavic MA-2 rim. It goes it but will not stay in due to the slick walls of the eyelet. And I got over 100 of these (got them used).

Maybe they just aren't for your rims.

There are two sizes of Veloplugs

The Yellow Veloplugs fit rim holes from 8.5 to 9.3 mm
Red Veloplugs fit 8.0 mm rim holes.

Red or Yellow? What size / colour should I use?

Unfortunately for many rims this can not be said with certainty since the hole size may vary from batch to batch.
To be sure please measure the hole size of your rim before ordering

Can you find another use for them? I once inherited thousands of rubber nipples and found dozens of uses for them, er, several anyway, including as knee warmers.

OK... Thanks... Here is another note for my USF file. Multiple plug sizes for different rims... Yep, Got It...

I used velo plugs in the past on some Mavic wheels and they worked great, but after I broke a couple of spokes when I hit a fairly good sized rock on the trail, I found they did not want to stay in after I removed to replace the spokes. I removed them and went back to the Velox. They are a nice idea but more of a answer to a problem that did not really exist.

I've used Veloplugs for many years on several different wheels. They work great. I keep a couple in my saddle bag thinking they might come out and get lost during a roadside tube change, but it's never happened. They are care free in my experience. OTOH, they don't work on some wheels, that's just life. Ironically, they don't work on my off center Velocity rim. They work on the front one. From my memory - without going to look at the bag of extras I have - I think there's two sizes/types.

As a solution to the wheels they don't work on, I used tape but it didn't upset me.

I guess I'll just sprinkle them all over the Christmas tree

Excuse my mechanical ignorance, but are they supposed to be used with, or in lieu of, rim tape?

I've used them on Velocity rims with no problems.

Velo Plugs won't fit my Campagnolo Zondas. I'm outraged!
