She would come and ride with me about 50% of the time that I did almost always quitting about 2/3 of the way through my workout. They probably only had 10-15 hours on the trainer. Once we actually started riding outdoors I was riding 3 times as much as she was, but less than halfway through the summer her rear tire started splitting in the middle of the tread. My take is don't ever use really good tires on a trainer
Stories like this are the exact opposite of my indoor trainer tire experience.

I posted this photo in September of 2021: https://www.bikeforums.net/22229600-post21.html

It's a 28mm GP5000 tire that had around 1500 miles of outdoor use, plus 1500 miles of indoor use on it when I took that photo. I rode that tire on my indoor trainer all last winter (1500-2000 miles) and it's still not worn out. I actually used this same tire on a few outdoor rides earlier this fall and it was fine.

I currently have two pairs of old GP5000 tubed clinchers ready to go for my wheel-on trainer, and I can't seem to wear any of them out. At this rate, I'll probably end up buying a direct drive trainer before I ever get there.

Y'all must put out massively more watts on your trainers than I do.

I use old tires also, I’m still alive and never had a problem with any of them. The one I am using now is a gp4000 and it has a little over 1k trainer miles on it.

.

This is the photo of that tire I spoke of. Low road mileage. What could have caused this damage?

Looks like wear to me, but you say it's low mileage. Possibly manufacturing defect.

Probably not even 1000km of road and trainer mileage. Wear isn't an issue but the trainer didn't do this tire any favours

Oh yes, if you ran it on the trainer, that can age your rear tire very quickly. Another good reason to use your old take offs.
