Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

wuts the pinch bolt? I figure out a way to get the cable in the slot, but then I don't know how to get the cable tight again.

Pinch bolt. A BOLT that PINCHes the cable to the derailleur.

Congrats!

I am doing most of my weekday workouts on the flats now, as part of trying to get a tiny bit serious about metabolic fitness and instituting an 80:20 schedule.

Quite a bit warmer here than it was last week, about 95 at the end of our ride. 95 is normally not a problem but since we were not acclimated there was a bit of sniveling.
We start with a few hundred feet of climbing and I had a lot of trouble getting going. This seems to be the new normal for me. Later I feel much better and don't embarrass myself as much.
Anyway 5 of us did 60 miles. We started with 6 but one of the ladies turned back early because she was afraid of the heat. She could have done the ride, she's a good climber but always underestimates herself.
Also we didn't make a water stop in the last 25 miles so a couple of us ran out. That seems to happen a lot on club rides, too.

The one the LBS uses to tune the shifters.

Wait. It’s been on the Bay for a year? And, you are thrifty/tightass? 🤔 This is not a time to worry about being insulting.

We would regroup periodically. But about 15 miles from the end, they all took off and left him for dead. I and my 4 friends stayed back with the birthday/ride leader and stayed with him until the end.

I don’t know if it’s ironic or just “tough love,” but if I invited a bunch of friends to my ride and they dropped me like that, I would be kinda pissed.

Thoughts??
It's a dick move. If you're doing a club ride or a "friendly" group ride there is no reason to be leaving people behind. If it's understood to be a "drop" ride at the start then you expect it. Some guys get on a group ride and just want to start dropping everyone they can.

If the cable just came out of the guide you might be able to get enough slack by putting it in the big ring, then shifting to the small without turning the crank.

Got on the scale and I'm still 4 pounds lighter than I was this morning despite having lunch and fluids. Think I'll have some water.

Ok but... you don't add the yearly number every month. That's up there with saying I did the first half of the drive at 60mph, and the second half also at 60mph, so I did the drive at 120mph.

Now that you mention it, I used that very method to get the Litespeed's FD cable back into the unnecessarily shallow track on the BB once.

There is a 2000 Litespeed Ultimate frame in my size that has been there for at least 2 years. And at $1600 BIN, it will stay there. Of course, now that I HAVE an Ultimate, it would stay there even if they halved the price.
