Addiction 2021.4

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In the early 90s a friend did between 20 and 25K every year for several years. He didn't have to work. In 1990 I took 3 months off work and did some touring and after the tour I rode 400 miles per week with him for about 5 weeks.
I did 12K miles that year, my highest total.
On Saturday one of the ladies in club #2 told me she does 12K per year. She is in her 50s and had a hip replaced early last year. She has great endurance.

That’s a LOT of saddle time. As you noted, understandable. If I could ride as much as I wanted, I don’t think I would see numbers like that.

My pusher asks me all the time if I'm having cramping issues or soreness in my muscles etc. Other than dampening my heart rate, I hardly notice. I do get some pissah wicked hamstring cramps post ride though.

edit, if I irritate them by sitting wrong, with my legs under me, or in a folding chair.

I get lots of hamstring cramps when I push it. I don’t think statins do that. Worst part is when I jackknife to straighten my knee, it often causes my chronically overworked abs to spasm. …Or maybe it’s the same spinal cord process doing both.

I added an edit to the above. My hammys only do it post ride if I sit wrong, legs under me,, or in folding chairs. I don't know why but they don't like folding chairs. If I sit in the car or stay on my feet it's no problem.

Any rapid knee flexion will do it to me. There’s a move on the boat that causes it routinely if I’m not really careful.

I forgot, while I was on this last trip, a box from trek showed up at the house. The guy I worked with to order the madone sent us a little Christmas gift. New bottle and a coffee mug. That was pretty awesome.

All she cares about is when she says "tacking" I release at the right moment, dive for low side, and get that 140% Genoa in toute de suite. The cramps and cries of agony are my business.
