Yours looks like my bike's blue twin. I do like your bluemels better though. I've posted pictures of mine way to many times.

It was 100mi away and I'm not really looking to buy/sell or do agressive CL purchases right now.

62 GranSport with hi ten tubes but the workmanship is fine. It's a 23 inch frame so it may go on the frame swap thread soon.

I love the map engraved GB bars - I don't suppose they did engraved rando bars? That'd be the bees knees.

For me, if there will ever be N+1, it will be a mid-70s Raleigh Gran Sport, with GB rando bars.

A bit off topic, but I am building up a 74 Gran Sport right now, I am almost done

but I need this brake component:

The hollow bolt that sits/threads into the brake bridge, also need the front brake retention bracket that sits under the lock nut on the handlebars.

Anyone know where to purchase these? eBay? I'm unsure of what these components are even called. Any help as to what these are called or where to buy them would be much appreciated.

As soon as I get these, I'll have a lovely restored Gran Sport to add to the thread
Thanks

You can find the front cable hanger on eBay occasionally - Loose screws carries one that looks good for just a couple of bucks.

For the REAR cable, you can use one of the adjusters from an old Simplex prestige (plastic) DT shifter. You'll need to strip 1/8" of plastic off the end of the brake housing is all.

Such excellent info! I just happened to have an old Simplex shifter, it'll work perfectly

Thanks a lot, Auchen.

Just rescued a Grand Sport and a Gran Sport from the metal scrap heap at the transfer station this Sunday. 23-1/2" Grand Sport and 21-1/2" Gran Sport. Campagnolo shifting on the 23 incher and Simplex on the 21 incher
.

The Grand Sport to be put on the road and the Gran stripped for parts.

Nice. but what do you intend to do with the Gran frame? It's too nice a frame to just toss back out, unless it is trashed. Don't let bummed paint confuse the issue!

I see this is a old thread but that doesn't mater When I bought mine 1972 Gran Sport with Zeus dropouts several years ago the original owner had used it for racing back in the early 1980's It had a very old repaint all gold color. The centerpulls were gone and it was all Campy. I removed the rear centerpull bridge and painted it like one of the early racing paint themes. It was not finished when I took this picture a few months ago. I ride it a lot at least three times a week.

Very nice find. Glad you saved them from the dump. Do post pics as you build the Grand Sport, and you'll have folks lined up to buy the other frame from you. It looks to be in nice shape.

I second the above.

67tony, that GS is nicely outfitted with period correct components. Were there any you changed out yourself, or did the bike come to you like that?

One reason I'm asking is that GS variants from the mid-70s seem to show up with all sorts of different, yet plausible and period correct hardware, which makes me wonder, were these factory builds, customizations at the LBS prior to sale, or post-sale customizations by the first or subsequent owners?

It will go up for sale, for sure. It's not trashed, it's just got some rust and paint chips and is too small for me. I want someone else to to have and enjoy the experience of owning and riding it.

It seems to be in great shape. The original front wheel is gone, so is the left crank; the current seat is a "Giant" product and the GB stem was replaced with a Pearl9. but hey, it's all about the frame and ride for me.

The 21-1/2" frame will go up for sale with as many original components as I can spare.

Baden? I was there a year ago working in Turgi. What a bicycle friendly place. I may have seen one of your bikes parked at the train station.

.........the owner (bought it new) said 1984, IIRC. Anyway, there's one here
that looks pretty much identical, and that owner (in England) says 1983 for his.

From The Previous Owner: I Bought It In About 1990 From A Time Trials Pal And Used It When I Was Having A Rest From Running!
It Was Built In Worksop In 1983 (May) And Is Frame Number 00007
so yeah, I guess right around that time. It's a new one on me, too. Maybe not imported to the USofA ??

Good thought, but not likely. I only arrived here this past June, and have only one bike, a Miyata 312, here with me. The nearest I've parked it to the train station is outside the Müllerbräu beer garden.
I ride through Turgi normally twice a week, i.e. Saturday and Sunday mornings on my workout rides.

I've posted this one a bunch of times but evidently not on this thread. 1973; I'm the original owner. The frame, fork and crankset are original; all other parts are replacements/upgrades. Still no complaints about the ride on this one.
