Had first PT session today, confirmed that it will likely be end of October before getting on the trainer and January before throwing a leg over an outdoor bike.

Hope y'all are having fun in Cambria... I was so bummed that it cancelled again. If it wasn't for this forum, I wouldn't have even known it was canceled! We'll hopefully be back on in April. Weather looks perfect this weekend too...

I'll be having surgery on Oct. 12th on my scalp. The cancer surgery I had in April is not healing and they'll be doing a "free-flap reconstruction" to close the gaping hole.

Well, the weekend is over and we all head home tomorrow if we haven't already. So which is better, a full-blown Eroica weekend or the more informal gathering that was? The answer is: Yes. Both are great experiences.

There wasn't the incredible concentration of C&V eye-candy as at a regular Eroica, but there were a good representation of really nice machines. The vibe was a bit mellower. I will do Eroica CA again (in April, God willing at the COVID rates don't rise), but I'd do another weekend like this one in a heartbeat.

Two special shout-outs. The first is to Velo Cambria. They had fun rides on tap Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings, all led by Rick Denman (former pro noted for his racing on the Euro 6-day circuit BITD); you could not ask for a better leader of group with widely ranging abilities. The owner and staff threw a nice party Friday evening and welcomed everyone for the rides all three days. (Special treat: John Howard was there. Yes, that John Howard, riding a Da Vinci tandem with his lady faire. Here's photographic proof of Team Howard going up Santa Rosa Road on an amazingly steep little pitch (20+%) that levels out to a merely stupid 16% or so. Based on one's first viewing of it, I have dubbed it "Holy Sh*t Hill". I am glad I never tried going down that (or Cypress) with Universal 51 brakes. To give you some idea, the part of the road you can see at the upper left is about 9 or 10%. The pitch they are on is a lot steeper.




The second shout out is to my wife, who has close to zero interest in cycling but came along and let me have a ton of fun and enjoyed the fact that I was having a ton of fun, She's a keeper.

I’ve always wondered if I’d rather ride up or down that hill on Cypress and I think probably would rather go down it, as scary as it can be. FYI, if you find the thread from 2019 Eroica, video of Gugie doing the “Father, Son, Holy Ghost” downhill is near that stretch in the pic above.

My brother and I went to the lighthouse and back to warm up, then went up Santa Rosa in reverse from last Eroica. Saw a few vintage bikes here and there. It was fun for sure.

It was a great weekend and as stated above, big shout-out to VeloCambria for hosting. They have said more similar events will come: "we're not waiting for Eroica to return."

Fantastic weekend in Cambria, met some great people , and also A few from BF for the first time. Velo Cambria did an outstanding job with the unplanned rides.

You couldnt ask for better weather on Saturday. The Flat ride to the Lighthouse changed to the death March up to santa Rosa road. Unfortunaetly for me, I had a 12-22 and almost fell over trying to get up those steep hills.

The days first victim was the Man himself, John Howard flatted on his Tandem, and then a gentleman who's name I forgot (sorry) had a bottom bracket come loose on one of the most beautiful Cinelli's Ive ever seen. Both got back up and running though.

Eventually the majority made it back down the Hills and headed to the lighthouse. The Tandem of Dave and his lovely wife Carrol had us rolling out at a little over 21 mph on the road, I stayed on their wheel the entire way out there. Love them 2 !

For some reason the Tourica crew (along with a couple of guests at the Palazzo) decided on a Saturday ride...I blame the ones that arrived by car... I would have never made a real Eroica! Thor wearing his long sought after Olmo jersey to go with his bought new in Italy in the 70's Olmo!

Hi I did the Eroica California 2019, and despite it being a little shambolic compared with the Britannia and Limburg Eroica's , the ride itself and the other riders make it worth coming over from the UK, now we can, for the 2022 ride. However the web site is a little confusing as to whether it will be in Cambria or Paso Robles. The site seems to have entries from earlier/cancelled events, any confirmation would be great. Neil

Neil Calder I am just a know-nothing nobody, but what I heard is that the good folks of Paso Robles didn't enjoy the disruption caused by the Eroica CA event. That is the purported reason that the start / finish was moved to the bucolic town of Cambria. In my brief experience, the web site and online information is poor to terrible, and internal inconsistancies and contradictions are not uncommon. To answer your location question, I would assume Cambria, like in 2019. Again, no actual prior knowledge at all.

The email I received from the Eroica organization regarding my registration being transferred to September 2021 indicated that Eroica would start in Cambria. The subsequent email I received postponing the ride until April 29 through May 1 2022 didn't indicate the start location but did mention that they were postponing in order to protect the citizens of the towns of Cambria, San Simeon and Cayucos. Paso Robles was not mentioned. I think it's safe to say that Eroica will almost certainly start in Cambria.

Neil, Note that even if Eroica is postponed again, it is almost certain that there will be a large group of people in Cambria riding Fauxroica II. It may even be that those of us who could not attend Touroica (San Francisco to Cambria credit card tour) this year due to broken bones will be riding Touroica II just prior. For even more fun and games, I usually lead Marinica, a pre-Eroica ride in Marin County a few weeks before the Eroica California date. You could ride any or all of those.

Fauxroica I looked like so much fun, and that is a great option if there is a further cancellation. On another note Eroica Britannia 22 is going to be at Goodwood in West Sussex as part of the Goodwood Revival, the long established vintage car festival. It is a lot easier to reach from London airports than The Peak District and also in a beautiful part of the country.
