SGRT South of Steel Bridge Detour
A friend and I were heading down on the Coyote Creek to the SGRT and once we got to the steel bridge there were signs "Bike path closed" "Detour". We turned around and went North instead but we never found out what the detour was all about and how long it was.

On Thursday 10/6/22, I rode the San Gabriel River bicycle path northbound, starting from its south end in Seal Beach. I crossed the Iron Bridge and continued north on the SGR path past El Dorado park in Long Beach.
Near the south end, there are detour signs posted on the path on both sides of the Pacific Coast Highway undercrossing. The path was passable despite those signs.
Based on those signs, I believe that there may be some bridge repairs or bike path repairs coming up soon. I didn't see any construction dates noted. I believe that any repairs will likely force cyclists to cross PCH instead of going underneath, if they're not blocked beforehand. Crossing PCH is always a risky enterprise.
The Long Beach Marathon is also this weekend, 10/8 - 10/9.

What about king/high tides flooding the path under the PCH bridge?
If you are coming from the north, once you get near the Steel bridge, look for any surge that sends the
higher level to both sides of the channel, then you can expect trouble under the PCH.
Today @8:20am there was a 7ft high tide. Then next one is after 8pm and riders won't notice that.

I rode by that portion yesterday. Came SB on the SGRT to the bridge, then went north on the LC Trail. The signs were still there on both trails but the SGRT southbound was open I watched a couple cyclists heading south. There was a tree-trimming crew at Liberty Park had the NB side blocked and folding signs on the trail saying temporarily closed but the crew were letting cyclists pass no problem. Maybe on the narrow portion south of the bridge had work crews going.
