Totally worth it. Great upgrade. I get clogs continually in all my bikes valves and it's maddening not being able to let a bit of air out.

Short Cut

Recently put new carbon wheels and seatpost on my Salsa Warbird. The wheels are DT Swiss GRC 1400 and the post is a Beast components. 500 miles in the past three weeks and I’m loving the upgrades.

I posted about this in bike mechanics. I'm pretty proud of the functional modification.

I wanted to switch from an 11s Sram cassette 10-44 (a 10-42 with the 42 removed and replaced with an aftermarket 44) to a Campy Ekar 13s 10-44. I didn't want to change more than I had to in order to keep the bike largely the same.

So I got a new hub to accommodate the Campy cassette, a SRAM Flattop chain which officially doesn't work and unofficially works great and put it all together.

Now I've got an electric shifting 1x13 using an oval chainring. Pretty cool.

Finally decided to purchase a duplicate saddle to one on my Giant gravel bike. I find it quite comfy. Will either keep as a back-up or use it on a Niner RLT gravel bike. The Niner factory saddle isn't terrible, but not as comfy as this.

Campagnolo Shamal carbon wheels for my Grizl. They will get 40mm Vulpine tubeless tires. A little bit wider & lighter wheel would be nice but the price was right.

BBB handlebar tape - 3.5mm thick (squishy!), and the texture seems effective (grippy!). The bottom end of the first side unraveled itself as I was trying to insert the plug after wrapping it (bad words uttered). I had to undo the whole thing to fix it. The second time, I put the plug in as soon as I could, and then finished wrapping. That worked a lot better.

I got mine Silca bar tape (as well as that of my wife). This is likely the best bar tape I have experiences (Fizik or Lizard Skins are a close second.)

As Poseidon makes their frames, have you noticed any frame defects? On bike forum, one bike shop recently reported following: "Two newer Poseidons in the shop to be worked on last week and found that on both either the stems or frames are actually crooked. When seat tube is vertical (with a level) the right handlebar end on both are almost an inch lower than the left handlebar end. It is easy to see with the naked eye actually, but we took measurements from the floor up to show the customer the difference in bar-end height on the bikes. Either the head tube was welded crooked or the stems are defective."

As I am currently considering X Ambition, medium size, purchase, how does bike ride: either on top of bike or in the bike feel due to upright bike geometry? Due to 20" seat post and short top tube length, I am concerned rider (5'8" and 140 lbs.) will ride more upright position, on top of bike, instead of in the bike feel. Thanks

Hard to isolate just the wheels from the tires, but the combo seems to run smooth and more pliant. The wheels are very quiet, no more angry whirrrrrr when freewheeling.

I have a silent freehub on my MTB. When riding with a friend on twisty singletrack, he said he had to keep looking back to make sure I was still with him because he couldn't hear me - LOL.

Don't make your friend look back while riding twisty singletrack; you should just shout his name every minute or so.

I put a bell on my handlebar. It not only lets other trail users know my location, but lets my buddy keep his eyes forward.

I swapped over to fin brake pads on my GRX calipers. I thought it was gimmicky, but on long/steep single track descents they seem to stay cooler resulting in less brake fade.

I'm also running a 477g hollowed out crankset. With chainring total weight comes in at about 575g. It has a 7075 T6 alloy axle. I'm also running 245g SPD pedals. It spins smoothly with no issues and does well under load when climbing out of saddle or sprinting.

I also thought about getting finned pads but was concerned about whether the return spring clip could adequately handle the additional weight during the service life of the pads?
