Out of the crate a none folder weighs 34/35lbs. The folder a tad more.
A bare frame with original bottom bracket and crank-set attached comes in at just over 9lbs.
I would imagine a lot of the ancillaries could be replaced with lighter alloy components.
This could be done in a subtle way and retain the now 'classic' appearance, which is rarely done.
Instead most go for the 'Pimped' look, which does look cute, but fools no one.
This humble bicycle kept Raleigh afloat during otherwise lean times, being by far their most sold and popular model, which was churned out at the grand figure of 140,000 a year for some time (that's UK sales alone).

You could also have a collapsible trailer set of wheels and tow the canoe back to your cabin with the bike.

Perhaps I should explain. This set up is used for solo canoe trips down fast rivers where the current is too strong to paddle back to my car. I go downstream until tired, get the bike out, lock canoe to a tree, pedal back to car, get in car and go pick up canoe, go home.
Yes a little trailer could be added to this system, I just don't really want to drag a 45 lb canoe behind the folder. With this system I can actually enjoy the bike ride on the Twenty, almost always on some very quiet, beautiful country.
Thanks for the tip about dual purposing it as an anchor, yet another benefit to riding vintage steel!

Old guy & bikes
Well I have two folding Twentys. One is stock, a project or sale bike.
Pics are of the one I ride. Both are Coffee color.
Folding bikes allowed on any Amtrak train.
Tricked out: 2 speed derail on AW (3x2 setup), B72 saddle, telescoping seatpost, lengthened stem. Schwalbe Marathon Racer tires.

I just purchased this Raleigh Twenty on ebay and was delivered friday. Lots of mechanical fiddling to get it going. I think this bike sat idle for many years. But now have it running well. Two things that attracted me was it has alloy rimmed wheels and the Brooks Pro saddle. Only thing a little wonky is the steering. Have now read up a bit in the nylon bushing headset and plan to investigate that.

Recently collected this little lot, making me an instant collector!
Looking forward to giving them all a good service over the coming months.
I'm already half way, making a mono-wheel trailer to compliment them.
Here are my 20's on arrival......

This isn't a Raleigh, it's a Peugeot I spotted for sale out by my house on Long Island. If anyone is interested message me, so I can let you know more information. I'm not the seller, and he's asking $100 for it, BUT the price IS negotiable. Looks solid for a restoration project.
