As the title says, looking for a wide do anything tire. I realize of course there will be penalties with wider tires but still want something that moves smooth and fast on pavement and can still handle a bit of single track or rough jeep trails.

I'm trying to limit the bike to 2.1 which gives better margins for mud and riding through with a broken spoke should that randomly happen. From what I've read the Nano is a top rated tire for the Tour Divide which is why I fit it to the wife's bike but now I need one for myself and I'm trying to asses if there's an equal or better that has arisen in the last couple years. This year we'll be riding the adirondacks and touring the Erie Canal with kids in the hopes of prepping to do the great divide in one of the two years following. That's what the bikes are built for and what I'd like the tires to accommodate. Any suggestions?

Maybe the 48mm Oracle Ridge, or the 2.2" Fleecer Ridge. The strongest casing FR option is 20gm lighter than that Nano.

This tread pattern will be very good in mud, have really good climbing/descending grip etc. Plus they roll pretty good on sealed roads for that knob height.

Vittoria Mezcal - Available in 2.1 and very similar tread pattern. If you need a more aggressive front tire You can do a Barzo front tire

do you remember what you wound up getting? what bike are they on? I currently have the nanos in 40mm & I'm thinking of going wider. wanna trade?

I've got Nano 700c x 40 on one bike - I do love them. My other bike has Teravail Rutlands and I really love these tires. To me they are a great all-rounder, do-anything tire. They might not look like it but they roll fine on pavement, not unlike how the Nanos feel with that center tread. And they handle everything offroad I can throw at them. In 29 they are 2.2, not sure if you can squeeze those in, but great tires IMHO.

Looks similar to the Pirelli Ciinturato Gravel M. 700 x 50 is a bit narrower than 2.1, but it might be wide enough for your needs

Went with the Vittoria Mezcal, they've been decent though I wouldn't call them impressive but they get the job done.

maybe I should have bought the WTB Nano 29x2.1. just mounted up some WTB Venture 700x50 (aka 2.0") but they only measure 45mm & may not have enough of a center bead. gotta check them while riding. but new tires are always fun. & these are 120 TPI so they should feel good. I'll try them at various pressures too. the rear seems fine at 40psi but I might crank it up to 60 to see how big they get & how they roll on pavement

pumped them up to max 60psi in the rear, 50psi in the front. will be interesting to see how I use them

even at max pressure (60 rear, 50 front) they are not harsh or too hard


- they can not compensate enough to replace even an entry level coil shock over rocks & roots. certainly not at these pressures
- over wet spots w/ mud they get squirmy/greasy (don't remember the Nanos having this issue)

fwiw - the MTB still has it's Riddlers as we wait for the temps to drop again. really good all around off road tire. pavement? not so much, but I can certainly ride some pavement to get to the dirt

for an MTB / off road tire that rolls well - consider the Continental Speed King

Speed King will roll as well or better than many gravel tires
