Free Cannondale Touring Bike

Cannondale ST500 - I’m guessing based on comparing to a 1985 catalog

Free from my son in law, who got it free from a neighbor. Dayum!!!

I returned home from the grocery yesterday to see the collector throwing this little Bianchi Lynx from my neighbor’s trash into the basket. I will find it a proper home.

Wow, that is ridiculous!! Lucky you!

A couple catches today. Nothing super fancy, but solid. A Windsor mixte with some cool lug work and an 89 Schwinn Impact (love the black chrome paint on this). Should clean up nice and probably flip these.

@brandenjs Those are great finds! I love the mixte and that chrome paint job is amazing. If I could find a mixte frame with the black chrome paint I would be in heaven.

Sounds like you need to find an A-D Vent Noir II.

You are absolutely correct. It is a real beauty. I did a quick search and found a listing on eBay.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/114472849039

I am not sure if this is a reasonable price or not but I am seriously considering this as the frame size will definitely fit me!

That's funny you should say that. I have a standard Vent Noir in the stable. This one was converted to a later model Dura Ace group, but I kept all of the 1st gen/Crane Dura Ace group.

Thanks to a PSA by WGB in the eBay/craigslist thread, I bought this Giant Kronos only five minutes away from home. The right STI shifter was gummed up, but that took only a few minutes to cure.

That's pretty steep. I'd expect the price for a good one to be about half that but I'm no specialist. I did sell the bikes new.

Also, you need to be aware that the Vent Noir (model) II is the one available in smoke chrome. The original VN, like the one you linked to, is only available in the matte black finish. Both very nice and probably no other differences in the frames other than the finish but if you want chrome, you should probably get chrome. Good luck!

Thank you for letting me know. I couldn’t find anything on the chrome finish but now that you have confirmed they did make them I will begin my quest on finding one. The matte black is nice but the chrome is better. Maybe I’ll get lucky and won’t find one that is overpriced.

It's a good looking bike. I sorted out out the gummed up STI lever and replaced the rear brake cable(rusted). It was never ridden much,, even has the original tires still on it..

It cleaned up well with a quick bath..

2014 Novara Express xx:

I got it very cheap, and with a little elbow grease and a few parts from the co-op it’s looking and riding pretty nice. Was missing a seatpost and seat and the shifters were broken. My parts bin coughed up the shifters and seat; and a brand new $5 seatpost from the co-op got it back on the road. Going to flip this one as it’s too small for anyone in my family....

Last thing I need is another bike...

But this followed me home. Parts scavenge. Anyone in Chicago/burbs who wants frame with shoved in post is welcome to it.

Keeping wheelset, bars/levers and components. Seatpost is a shame though.

Bike Co-op reject, Olmos

Found this at the local co-op in their "strip" pile. A lower end Olmo. They wanted $10 for the shifters. Rear wheel missing, but I propped the bike up with this one. Yes, it is a wreck, but I love the lugwork. I tried to look up the serial number but their website is very hard to figure out. I think this is a 1970's, but don't know. There mechs are Shimano. Probably originally a drop bar? Or did they just put modern risers on it?

Does anyone know about this bike, obviously a lower end model, but still pretty.

Olmos

Headbadge completely worn out, nice lugs

Original? Don't think so, I think this had drop bars originally? Allow on it now.

Bottom bracket has updated sealed bearings

Shimano

I kind of like it too. It looks like it spent its life in Santa Cruz or somewhere near the ocean.. I think that that the bars were changed when the basket was added - is there embossing on the headbadge that would give a clue to the maker?

I think that you are probably right that it might be a lower end bike but that is somewhat relative. Low end or not, I still think that this is a way cool bike and definitely worth salvaging and saving if you possibly can. Hopefully that Brooks saddle isn't too far gone. Great find!

Found a few weeks ago dumped behind our communal bins. Much befuddlement on my part as to its age & model but not expecting much, especially with the 'groovy' paintwork.
Much, confusing, research later we have the answer: Bianchi Caurus Proto in Columbus Max tubing. This is going to be fun and vexing to blueprint, especially on my non-existent budget but I have my wife's loony friends in Italy on the case, hoping that they can locate the correct 'aero' fork, apparently unobtanium!
Gradually warming to the pearl coral & black.

Just got around to posting the update. Nothing special, but given new life as a commuter for a friend!

Renegade Midnite 12 - by Raleigh Canada c. 1984?

Mainly just new consumables (cables/housings, chain, bar tape, tubes), updated brake levers and seat, and a good clean/tune-up!
