I have a trip planned to Fredericksburg first weekend of June and am planning to ride the "Luckenbach Loop Alternate" which is included in the Adventure Cycling Association Texas Hill Country Loop route map. Anyone have experience with this particular loop (the Luckenbach loop)? Mainly concerned with traffic on weekends.

I haven't done that particular loop, but I've done plenty of Hill Country riding. Anytime you get close to Hwy 290, traffic will increase. The further away from it you go, the quieter things get. You'll encounter some traffic on RM 1376 northwest of Luckenbach, but Cain City Road and and the Old San Antonio Road should be pretty sparse, although you'll likely get some motorcycle groups no matter what. Start early in the morning to avoid both traffic and the heat. It's only a 30-mile loop, so you should be able to get 'er done before the Fredericksburg hoards show up. Have fun!

Thanks, very helpful info! Any experience on RM 1631? The place we're staying is just off 1631 about 14 miles east of Fredericksburg. In fact the Luckenbach loop uses about 6 miles of 1631.

Apologies for not circling back on this thread -- how was your ride??

We ended up doing three rides during our stay, but didn't do the Luckenbach loop. I found 3 routes folks had posted on RWGPS. We did the Willow City out and back route, a route called the Pedernales double cross, and then on our last full day loaded the bikes up and drove down to Blanco and rode the Real Ale loop. This last one and the Willow City were the most scenic and enjoyable. This was my wife's first big weekend of riding her new e-bike. She's really enjoying it btw. We felt more comfortable avoiding most of the ranch roads throughout the area.

The Real Ale 50-mile loop is one of my favorite rides in all of the Hill Country. That last climb over the saddle is a heartbreaker, though! Real Ale recently announced the ride is back this year, on October 30. Highly recommended!

Its the same time as the Wuerstfest sp? which is another great Octoberfest type party.
