Chain too short on new 1x setup I did?
Hi there,
I just put together a new Advent X 1x10 setup with a 30x48t big combo.
I am a little concerned the chain is a link short. The derailleur stretches pretty far forward in the big cog but it seems quite similar to the manufacturer's setup (I followed the manufacturer's instructions but there was some question about where to count as an overlap when measuring). I checked a Park chain length video and they mentioned the chain should not be straight coming off of the big cog but should curve around each pulley, which is does (although it's pretty slight on the upper pulley).
Any thoughts as to whether this is OK? Here is a screen shot from their video:

I think you're good, but see if you have at least 1" "slack" on the largest cog per picture.

Thanks - I will check to see if I can get 1" slack - I am sure there is quite a bit more forward movement in the derailleur . I figured that the 1x's were kind of a different animal because they have such a huge range but don't want to kill anything by having the chain too short. It shifts nicely though!

A little longer doesn't hurt as long as you can do it without "sag" when on the smallest cog.
You might want to have an extra 1" you can 'amputate" in case of possible damage.

If you have a b-screw, you might see if that lets you get the jockey wheel little closer to the cogs. My jockey wheel on both bikes runs much closer.
But take what Park Tool and any other says with the knowledge that they can only talk in generalities. Different models on differently configured bikes might just be different from the norm.
If it otherwise shifts well and the chain doesn't get too much slack in the smalls, then what more do you want?
