Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In the early 90s the highway through there (126) was called Blood Alley. Twisty, 1 lane each direction, and huge eucalyptus trees just off the road. We used to ride our bikes on that thing and I hated it.
2 of us were using it to connect to another road to get across the river, which is usually dry. There were big rains and the road across the river was washed out and water was flowing, not quite as much as in that picture, but we put our shoes in our pockets and waded across, holding our bikes overhead. Crazy, but I did not want to go back on Blood Alley.
My friend dropped his Zefal frame pump but he made it and put his bike down and came back to help me because I almost lost it in thigh deep water. Terrifying.

There's not a 1.0 coefficient for student enrollment/athletic program success. But 10,000 (if that's the actual size) is pretty small to compete against the big budget programs. TV contracts have leveled the field somewhat, but still.

I played the b-flat clarinet for two years in grade school. My instructor said it was the flattest b-flat clarinet that he had ever heard. I don't think it was a complement.

Right up till she plays it. Mrs. GJ refers to the regular bassoon as "The Farting Bedpost", so what does that make the Contra?

I have always loved that album cover. and the music too, of course. Long ago and in a land far away, I had a leather worker make me a hip pouch with the face and peace sign on it. That pouch somehow got away from me.

Hit the ground running @ KBC. It's going to be the best year ever. Probably.

Noticed this song in my music folder. Discuss.

Mrs. Dan used to play the Great Highland bagpipes. Now, just the small pipes.

In unskilled hands either one sounds like someone is torturing a goose. I love the sound of the pipes if they have space to resonate.
