One Neat Nishiki
Just finished this Nishiki with a little help from Ben’s Cycle.
I wanted something a little different from all the Yellow bikes I’ve seen on the C/V Forums. Then I thought Pink would work. This frameset was a real basket case when I got it five years ago.
Drivetrain and brakes are Shimano 600 EX. Headset is Shimano 600 EX. I have a Sedisport chain on a 6 speed freewheel. Hubs are 32h Sansin Gyromasters on Mavic rims.
Tires are Panaracer Pasela, 700 x 25c. It was a pretty tight fit, honestly. But it works.
I settled for Jagwire Pink housing and cables, since I couldn’t find a vintage equivalent. A’ME hoods and Cinelli vintage bar wrap, Nitto RM-013 handlebars and matching Black Pearl stem.
When I got the bike, it was all in shambles. The drive side Chainstay was bent, the 600 hubs were trashed, and there was corrosion beyond hope nearly everywhere. I asked Andrew Muzi at Yellow Jersey to repair the frameset and repaint it. Decals are from Velocals. Now, after five years, the bike’s finally done.
Hopefully, we’ll start seeing some warmer days for some nice spring rides. Thanks goes to all of you Nishiki lovers for some much needed advice, especially T-Mar. Sorry I couldn’t include this earlier on the September Yellow bike thread.

Well, this was what I initially thought of…

I like the look a nicer black back seat post to match the nice stem would seem to really put it over the top great work.

I agree; I think I could make the post I have on this bike with black trim. Not sure if Sugino made a Black version of this post. But I am sure it’ll look cool. I’m open to suggestions.

Pink pedals. Balance out the top-heavy pink.
I disagree with the black seatpost suggestion.(and I usually like black seatposts and stems) Replace the stem with a silver one to keep the impression light and airy.

I have found that black nail polish works good for this fairly cheap and easy and the brush is just the right size for flutes, if you want there is a lot of colors to choose from if you want to go for something a bit different like pink or yellow.

A thing of pink nail polish $2 at the dollar store as for pedals pink is a bit tough but I do agree pink pedals with say black half clips would be great but a bit of tough find.

Well, considering the stem is black, I think using black enamel on the seat post seems right. I also know "One Shot" makes a sign painting enamel that works quite well. The Sugino SP-KC seat pillar on my Nishiki has some pretty long flutes.

Unfortunately moisture follows the flutes down. But the KC seatpost is a cool one.

At first, I didn't like the color and was worried it wouldn't turn out right. But seeing the frameset in person honestly restored my faith.
Velocals didn't have all the decals I needed to complete the frameset the way I wanted, however I did find about 85% of what I needed. Little did I know, Velocals were going to close down after taking my order.
Shimano HP-6207 600EX headset. I was lucky enough to find the matching headset wrench Ben's Cycle was going to throw out before they moved across the street on Lincoln Ave.
On the Nishiki Forum, I discussed this frameset when I first got it. Andrew and Tim at Yellow Jersey straightened out the right rear chainstay, which was bent. There are very few bike shops which do this kind of work, and I recommend Yellow Jersey to anyone who has a vintage steel frame which needs repair and/or restoration. Andrew's a Wizard.
I am really very proud of this bike. I think everyone should have a bicycle they own and are proud of too.

We are privileged to be within (in the grand scheme) spitting distance of Yellow Jersey. This bike was clearly well worth the trip and the effort.
