Cut SKS Fender to Fit Fork

Front SKS p45 Fender gets just squished a little by my Soma ES fork. There's just like a 2-3mm gap between the fender and 32 tire right at the fork. I think if I could just cut a small half oval in that area - I'd be good to go. Love to have a stamp or some press that could cut that out.

A heat gun, if you have one, can be used to make an indentation on the fender to fit nicely. Otherwise, just cut it.

Or just cut off the fender ahead of the bracket. Remember water leaves the tire OD at a tangent. Draw a line along the tire's tangent right at the crown and see where the water is thrown. Andy

Trim the fender sides to fit the fork first and ride it. Removing material and making that front less stiff lowers the resonant frequency and may set up vibration through the whole fender. SKS fenders are good, stiff and use double stays so I doubt this will be an issue. If it is, you can still take Andy's advice and cut the fender down to the bracket. But fenders are like carpenterr's boards. You cannot rectify a too short cut with a second one,

I like the heat approach as it will be "self-healing" and not be prone to cracking but I could see warping as a potential problem. I think I would Dremel the sides with a drum or grindstone rather than using a knife, (On the Planet Bike plastic, l will happily cut with a knife but not the much stiffer, more brittle SKS fenders.)

If you remove too much of the fender by the crown, it may eventually crack there and you may end up having to split there the fender anyway. As to resurrecting a fender that was cut at a wrong place, I glue fenders with epoxy, basically treating the fender, brackets and stays as raw material for own creations.

I cut the front in 1/2 & mount each 1/2 separately

fender companies make stuff like this I use. I like these the best, it's the Honjo Fender L-Bracket found at the Bike Touring News web store. there are two sizes
