I'm not disagreeing with the concept. I would hope that would be the types of things addressed by the "Build Back Better" and other plans. I'm just saying that you cannot put the burden of "the common good" on the shoulders of the private business sector. It's getting damn hard to run a private business these days and keep it profitable at some level. If you start throwing "common good" costs onto the pile, you'll just start seeing them close. I don't know too many people who want to work at a loss or for free for very long.

I also don't think the burden of pandemics and the likes should be put on the shoulders of the medical community, especially when that burden results from people pontificating about their "personal rights." I'm a big believer in natural consequences and that there doesn't always have to be a safety net to protect people from their poor decisions.

Standard U.S. townships are 6 miles x 6 miles. Of course, there are non-standard townships generally due to terrain.

Anyway, in Illinois, IDOT handles State and Federal Highways, Counties handle County highways, Cities handle their own unless it's a State route, and lastly, Townships handle the vast majority of rural roads.

Someone told me that if a road has a double-yellow line that it's maintained by the state, while those without a double yellow line are maintained by the township. I know you are not in my state, but does that sound right or is it an old wives' tale??

Double yellow means do not pass.

Now sure how it would work if it also had a maintenance meaning.

I've heard that said but that is not standard striping and doubtful that it applies to PA, either. Pavement markings, signage, etc. in the US are governed by the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices as any tort lawyer who handles traffic accidents knows word for word better than most highway engineers. Take my word for it.

Anyway, the MUTCD is followed religiously as far as I know. It would be chaos for out of state drivers if states did what they wanted.

BTW, I don't think TN uses township government but I'm not sure.

I don't know how there could be any other meaning. In Illinois and I'm sure elsewhere, low volume roads often have no striping of any kind.

It's A-ball, and it's unlikely that there is a realistic path for her to get to the MLB level as a Manager...but it's a start. In 2020, the Cubs hired Rachel Folden as a hitting coach, the first female on-field coach in pro baseball. We're also continuing to see an increase in females on the broadcast/analysis side of the game. I'm a fan.

The old-school attitude that you have to play at a high level to be able to coach at a high level continues to be challenged. Another example is the Dodger's hitting coach, Robert Von Scoyoc - a young guy whose playing peak was being mediocre in HS. He became a student of the swing, learned from some of the most respected hitting coaches in the same, and helped JD Martinez rebuild his swing into what we see today.

You say that like it's a good thing. More likely folks are just bored with riding on paved surfaces, next thing you know everyone except Vol and I will be flocking to riding in the mud. Some do that already, I hear.

State roads that are not marked as state highways will sometimes have little white signs along the side that read “SR” and then the road number along with some sort of location code I’m not sure I understand.

I've always found credence in the old expression "It takes a chump to make a champ". Superstars don't make good coaches. Other than Lenny Wilkins, I can't think of another instance, in any sport, where a superstar became a championship calibre coach.
