Have you seen the Shimano Spd sandals? Made to clip right in your MOuntain bike, as long as you have one of hundreds of models of SPD compatible pedals
this setup looks like that sandal bolted down, only release is pull bare foot out?

3 Alarmer I just bought a set of the PD 6207 and plan to get the steel clips for the PD 6400 in large. My road bike shoes will be running slotted cleats, size 11 or 45 so will I have enough toe room? Maybe in your case, you ride with flat shoes and need foot deep over pedal? I used to ride with old style size Large Christoph or ALE clips back in 80's they were just right
