Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In these parts, you have to wear one to get into stores. Some people don’t bother if there is no monitor at the entrance. Some others pull them partially or all the way down once they get inside, especially if they want to talk on the phone. Yesterday I sneered at an elderly guy in Whole Foods who pulled down his mask to talk on his phone. He clearly saw me because he pulled it up after I gave him the look.

Well, a steady burn over the summer will be the perfect setup for a overwhelming wave in the Fall. Here's hoping the experts are wrong and that our surveillance is good. I am less worried about the big hotspots (NYC, DC, Boston) from this Spring in this respect.

Compliance around here (DC area and Annapolis) is virtually 100%

Did they just leave the speakers and wires in the walls or is there a receiver, too?

Speakers and wires. No receiver, just speaker wires coming out of the wall.

That is classic idiocy. You see it all the time. It is even in the Bible. A prophet says repent or die. Everybody repents. Nobody dies. Therefore he was a false prophet. If I'm not mistaken, that was part of Jonah's problem.

But seriously, my take is that only NYC was scaring folks enough for them to take precautions. As soon as NYC settled down, the attitude became much like for auto accidents. Meh! Fact of life. Well, not really.

How much music do you listen to? Is it mostly just in background? And movies - do you want to hear bullets whizzing and helicopter blades whirling around the room? Or would you be fine if just the front half of the room had (directional) sound?

I'm thinking it isn't weather that makes viral illnesses like flu seasonal, flaring up in the fall, but rather back-to-school. There is nothing that can spread a virus like a school child.

Yep, but what about the 50% of people that cover their mouths with the mask but not their noses? It's everywhere here in Houston.

Yup. It is classic idiocy.

There is a good amount of compliance here. It certainly wanes the further out from the cities that you get, though. Even in the suburbs, it's there's a noticeable shift. Rural? Forget it. A curious pattern unlike anything we've seen before, eh?
