Database cut over completed. System response time seems better than ever! Crossing my fingers this is dawn of a new era for VeloBase.com after the last year of issues and system stability problems.

I was there a week ago and it performed flawlessly. This on a chromebook running Brave, via Linux.

This is an issue with ASP.NET having to be more strict about html being submitted in the form. Because people on the internet can't be trusted (ie hackers, bots, etc). I need to address this soon, but life has been really hectic again in the last few months.

Good evening all. Seems my hosting company decided to do a 36 hour maintenance on the server that hosts the site today (perfectly timed for my birthday). So, fingers crossed, the site is back up and running soon. I'll check back in the morning and if it's not up and running then, I'll get in contact with the hosting company and rattle some cages. Ya'll have a good evening.!

Hey you guys... Once velobase.com is up and running again, DON'T BE SO CHEAP! Send Jon some $$$ to help support a GREAT resource. Even $5 would help!

There's a link for donations on the website.

Velobase came up in a few different google searches for me the last couple days. Had honestly never come across the site before. Was sad to see the site was down, seems like there's a ton of info there I could use.

I'll definitely check out the donation page, I'm eager to see if Google sent me in the right direction 😀

Velobase situation 2023?

I truly love the Velobase website and just recently joined because I got some rarish parts that were not listed yet on the site.

But I can't upload any images even though I've resized them to site requirements.

Does anyone know if the site has been abandoned or what?

Velobase is up and running. Its security certificate has expired. You should be able to get to the site after clicking past one or two slightly scary warnings.

Yeah, it’s fine to proceed until Siri begins answering you in Russian. Then you might be concerned.

It would be different if there was any change to the velobase.com credentials. There hasn't been as far as I can tell. GoDaddy is the registrar, probably has been since its inception in 2007. The current domain registration was updated a couple months ago and doesn't expire until next June:

% whois velobase.com
...
Domain Name: VELOBASE.COM
Registry Domain ID: 1025460602_DOMAIN_COM-VRSN
Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.godaddy.com
Registrar URL: https://www.godaddy.com
Updated Date: 2023-06-13T12:08:43Z
Creation Date: 2007-06-12T20:14:45Z
Registrar Registration Expiration Date: 2024-06-12T20:14:45Z
Registrar: GoDaddy.com, LLC
...
It might also be different if poking your way through to the site actually took you to something which didn't look like Velobase, or which couldn't handle database queries. I'm almost 100% positive it's the Velobase database behind the website. Nothing's changed except for the fact that the TLS certificate has expired.

Here's a search for Atom freewheels:

Feel free to keep avoiding it, but I'm comfortable that it's working as before.

Hey smontanaro , what do you know about Let'sEncrypt and ACME? Can we advise cuda2k on how to avoid this ever happening again, by putting in a service on his server to always request a new cert before the old one expires?

I would broach the subject with him myself only I'm on shaky ground, as a website consultant... that is, I'm a total amateur and not an educated one at that. And my little hobby server runs on Windows/IIS.

I use a service called CertifyTheWeb that requests, pulls down and installs a new FREE cert for my server on a schedule. No input from me since the day I installed it. Can't believe I used to pay for certs, and go through a somewhat painful process to install it each time. Only painful because it's something I only did every couple years, so I had to re-learn the procedure each time.

It's my understanding that there's no downside to a free cert, for a low-volume site with no e-commerce. Free certs are every bit as safe for encryption, right? It's OK to inform me if that's a dangerously ignorant statement!

Sorry for the off-topic blah-blah, but it's for Velobase, whom we all love, right?! Viva Velobase!

Mark B

Hi Mark,

I use EFF's certbot on my Nginx-based web server. It appears to be available on most platforms, Windows and MacOS in addition to a bazillion flavors of Linux. It was a pretty trivial install on my Ubuntu (virtual) server. I literally never investigated any other options. cuda2k what is the Velobase env? ISTR seeing Windows-related errors from time-to-time.

Good morning, I am writing from Italy and via Google Translate to ask a question, as writing on the VELOBASE.COM website is silent.
I am registered as a Certified Vintage user, signed up July 3, 2023, there is no way to insert images, use Marketplace, send email messages, administrative help and or users.
Through acquaintances registered on the site they informed me that it would be better to make a "donation" to obtain such access, is this true?
Thank you very much

Mille grazie

Having a similar problem to Ciclo above. I have added a number of components in the past and very much appreciate using the site, but I am getting tired of beating my head against the wall. Maybe it's just me?

The lack of answers here and the ban on sending\receiving personal and admin messages in velobase.com does not bode well. -Peace and greetings anyway.
La mancanza di risposte qui e il divieto di inviare\ricevere messaggi personali e all'amministratore in velobase.com non fa pensare a nulla di buono. -Pace e saluti comunque.
