This is an 87 Voyageur. I can’t tell if this is a crack or a finish issue. Very clean and original. J6 serial with a 0567 badge stamp.

Crack is in the seat tube and appears to follow the mitering and spreads around into the BB shell.

If the BB wasn't cracked like that the seat tube could be replaced but with a respray, the cost to replace just the seat tube would far exceed the value of the frame.

Time to look for a replacement frame....

Yep, you can still scrape, buzz, whatever the paint off for a more thorough exploratory, you know, because inquiring minds want to know.

And then you will be %100 certain.

I’m not in the mood for a $200 gamble.

Ah, I see, yeah let the seller stew in their own juice. Hopefully they don't find an unsuspecting buyer.

If you have been skating on the thin ice of vintage life...

wont fail in a way that will hurt, but it will fail soon enough . And could leave one calling an Uber.

It's only money I don't remember what I have invested in saving this Gerch with a cracked BB shell; but I do know how it makes me feel when I ride it. Some things go beyond dollars and sense

Thanks for the info guys. I was hoping to buy a cool bike to ride on vacation, but I guess this is not the one.

True that. Been there, done that, had my "friends" laugh their backsides off at me.

Sometimes it is about the journey, dog with a bone, etc.

There are gazillions of the frame in question and IMO this is unusual for them so a solid one can be found fairly easy.

We could probably keep track of it to try and make sure that doesn't happen but yes they probably will.
