Vintage BMX

This poster has been in my Mom's office since 1987. The Diamond Back team came and put on a show in our parking lot. Does anyone recognize the riders and autographs? Over the years bike salesmen and bmx pros have asked to let them have it.

I remember Mike Dominguez, he was big then, great rider. I was more into the air guys. I have a flatlander friend that would probably remember the others.

The Skyway team also came to our shop in 1987. I took these pics of some good air.

Hey GMS,

Cool poster. Most of those guys were way after my time in BMX. I rode against and lost to the likes of David Clinton, Tinker Juarez, Stu Thompson, and Neal Bonds, the hot shots at the time.....the first legends of BMX and it's crazy, at the time I didn't know that was the beginning of BMX an Olympic Sport.

Thanks for sharing the photos.......it brought back lots of fun memories.

Oh by the way.......I still have my 1974 Mongoose with first generation Motomags and 1973 Diamond Back bikes, they both need to be restored but I have them still after 47 years......WOW does time fly.

You also have Woody Itson's signature on the poster which is kinda huge as he was just as famous if not a little more then Mike. A bit of interesting history IMHO. Both Mike and Woody both rode for Hutch which were like the Bianchi of BMX of the time, everyone wanted one but few could afford them. Mike leaves Hutch in 1986 for a lucrative deal with Diamond Back gets his own signature bike the "Mike Dominguez Strike Zone". In 1987 the year of your poster/event Woody breaks his foot, and I think Hutch was starting to struggle financially. Mike feels sorry for Woody and gets him sponsored onto Diamond Back. Not even a year later in 1988. Diamond Back drops Mike like a hot stone, and renames his signature bike the "Woody Itson Strike Zone" Ouch right?

Bmx

I used to be into Bmx back in my prime , growing up in central California. The Bmx scene was pretty big in California in the 80s to mid 90s . Them was the days of traveling 20 miles a day on a Bmx ... wow

I snagged this frame only 1988 F1 DiamondBack from C&V sales forum recently. Bare and minus the decals but it’s one of the long forgotten attempt to add another race style to BMX events.

only decal left is the California registration sticker.

Seller pic

Lots of drop for this BMX bike!

Hi Guys,

Cleaning out my attic and found a few photo's when I was young and riding trying to get BIG air.......(Note: year 1972-1974)

Trying not to fall......

Getting crossed up......

Playing around a bit.......

Yes.......that's me leading the race.....

Yeah........I won a few and had a lot of fun.......and yes I still have the bike and the moto-mags.....

I used to race BMX back in the day. I rode for the Schwinn Factory NorthWest team. It was a blast traveling around the country, racing Nationals, Grand Nationals and Gold Cup qualifiers and the Gold Cup Championships invite only race. I won lots of races including the Gold Cup Championships and many Nationals. Fun times indeed!!

Pretty cool artifact! Tony "the Tiger" Murray autographed the DB poster, but he's more well known as a Haro team rider.
